Publisher's summary

After years renovating a ramshackle farmhouse in rural Ireland, Nick and Lesley can finally relax and enjoy the quiet life. They hope to spend their days gardening, writing, and taking their dogs for long walks through beautiful County Clare. Although the years ahead may look sunny, there are dark clouds building beyond the horizon.

Will love and good humour see them through these testing times, or will their dream end in tears? Find out in this fourth episode of the Alberts’ countryside adventures.

Like a Visit With Old Friends

I've listened to each of the previous books in this series and love that there's a book number 4. I never want this series to end because each book is like catching up with old friends, the kind of friends where you can cozy up to the fire, kick off your shoes, and help yourself to whatever's in the kitchen. The kind of friends who are trustworthy and comfortable to be with and the hours fly by as you catch up on their lives.

Nick and Lesley have finished the renovations on their house in rural west Ireland, but as is always the case in life, there are more challenges and joys in store for them. Lesley's mom comes to live with Nick and Lesley as her Alzheimer's becomes more advanced, and Nick and Lesley do everything within their power to make her life as comfortable and meaningful as possible. They are pleasantly surprised by the services available to them to assist in Muriel's care once they move her from England to Ireland. The sadness of what's happening with Muriel is offset against the joy of becoming grandparents.

In between, there are stories of gardening, cats, the dog who chose where he wanted to live, the other dogs, walks in the woods, and Nick's near escape.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this book, and the others in the series if you haven't read or listened to them yet. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The story continues

Nick's story continues, updating us on his life in rural Ireland, in his humble, self-deprecating style and easy-going humor.

Andy Stevenson stands in competently and consistently as Nick's voice in this fourth audiobook of the series. It makes for a very entertaining and enjoyable listen.

The story continues!!

This is the fourth book in the series of Nick and Lesley Albert’s memoir about living in County Clare, Ireland, They had relocated from England for a quieter but more satisfying life.

I thoroughly enjoyed the stories of the family, friends, their wonderful pets, and life's trials and tribulations.. It is like catching up with old friends, from the good news of the blessed event to the very touching chronical of Lesley's mother's struggle with dementia and care I hope there will be another book.

Well done!

Alzheimer-victim, family-dynamics, family, Ireland, laugh-out-loud, situational-humor, verbal-humor, friendship, renovation, dogs, pets, rural, small-town

Oho! I won this next in series as audio in a giveaway!
A wedding, a new grandbaby, a kitten amongst the dogs, more house and other problems, a mother-in-law with advancing Alzheimer's, mourning, the vagaries of underfunded health systems, getting on with life. Another wonderful addition to the ongoing saga of the Albert's life in a rather remote part of Ireland with all its joys, frustrations, and more. Andy Stevenson is the narrator who has such a relaxed delivery that you come to think of him as the personification of Nick Albert. Loved it!

Another great adventure in Ireland book 4

This book was like getting to visit with an old friend and get caught up on what is going on in their lives. Nick and Lesley have been living in Ireland for 8 years by this book 4 in the series. I have read books 1-3 and enjoyed going on this adventure with them. This book is a little different in that it talks about his writing of the first book and so we have kind of come full circle. The narrator of this book is once again Nick Albert is the narrator of his own book and I love that. Who better to tell the story than the author.
