Publisher's summary

The Wulfriths. It all began with a woman....

A battle. A crown. The conqueror. The conquered. Medieval England - forever changed by the Battle of Hastings. And the rise of the formidable Wulfriths.

A rebel most wanted

Vitalis of the Saxon resistance wearies of leading men to victory, only to next lead them to death at the hands of the invaders. But when an opportunity arises to shame the Norman who claims England’s throne, he takes it, as well as proof of that shaming.

Now more than ever, William the Conqueror is determined to capture the rebel leader. And greater that possibility when Vitalis must keep his word to recover an impetuous Norman lady abducted by Saxon allies.

Can he free her without making enemies of his own people? More importantly, can he forgive the one determined to pry open his heart when bloodshed proves the price of her release? And what is to be done with the usurper’s son who is as determined to capture his sire’s enemy as the vengeful warriors pursuing the elusive rebel?

A lady most reckless

Lady Nicola of the D’Argents thinks too highly of her ability to defend herself and too little of consequences. Thus, when good intentions go awry, she finds herself abducted and her chance of escape thwarted by her own recklessness.

Now a captive on the Isle of Ely - the last bastion of English resistance - she discovers the mighty Saxon warrior, Vitalis, seeks to return her to her family. And that her fascination with this enemy has not abated in the years since the girl of her first looked upon the man of him.

But when he sets in motion his plan to free her, once more, Nicola proves her own worst enemy. Though he may never forgive her for what she costs him, she is determined to make a way for him in Norman-ruled England - even at the sacrifice of her reputation.

From William the Conqueror’s harrying of the North to the fenlands of East Anglia, the tale of Lady Nicola and the mighty Vitalis unfolds in the fifth book in the Age of Conquest series revealing the origins of the Wulfriths of the best-selling Age of Faith series.

Nicola’s story-worth the wait!

Vitalese sees Nicola as more than just an impulsive, loud mouth girl. He was the only one who saw the real her. And after losing his first love, it was incredible to see his story come together to happiness and see Nicola be changed by her experiences. As we all are, but not lose what makes her Nicola. It’s exciting, romantic, and you feel yourself there in the bailey of the castle.

Loved this! Another winner!

I so much loved this book, with the fierce, fiery, and loyal spitfire, Nicola D’Argent, sister to the D’Argent warrior brothers, and Vitalis, the red haired giant Saxon warrior leader of the Rebels of the Pale, who has promised to rescue the kidnapped Nicola despite her unruly temperament and his own endangerment against the Normans for attempting Nichola’s rescue from the Danes.

Again, Leigh has created a book that enables us to see into the Medieval Times and connect with peoples and leaders who lived long ago, and draws us into a web of intrigue and controlled passion. This story is full of action and adventure.

Also, the narrator, Aggliotta, is very gifted! I love the way she portrays the warriors with masculine, gravelly voices, and the accents are SO good and add much richness to the tale! Much enjoyment!

Thank you for such a wonderful read! I recommend! Wish I could see these books made into movies. I love so much that these books feature principled hero’s and heroines who uplift and strengthen us!

Another great story. Narrator needs reality check

Not my absolute favorite book in the series, but a solid story. Every book in the series is worth a listen. Tamara Leigh is wonderful and gives us these fabulous clean medieval romances to escape into. Keep it up!! your fans are loyal and will keep buying your books!!
Mary Sarah - I recently listened to a book you read about ten years ago and it was amazing. Why do you now read each book more and more unnecessarily exaggerated than the last? When will it end?? The meaning gets lost in the dramatic sing-songy delivery. It grates on my nerves. It's overly indulgent. You're one of the best voice actors I've heard. Your accents are amazing. Please stop reading the narration portions as if it's a song and read it in a way it can be understood.

Loved the story of Vitalis and Nicola

I really enjoyed this story. I worried it would be very similar to the others in the series. I love Nicola’s personality. I’m sure there was more than one of those types of women at the time. I live how Vitalis’s character is full of integrity and honor, even when it’s hard. I wish more of us had the courage to be like him. Great story. Great narration.

Excellent continuation

Tamara Leigh has a way of intwining history and fiction to keep you entertained and engrossed in medieval time romance that teaches a principal of Gods love. I love all her books but I’m a particular fan of her medevil work.
This age of conquest series will not disappoint. Especially book 5 as we entwine the reckless Nicolai and Vitallies in a crazy adventure surrounding Norman, Saxon and Dane conquest over England.

Love this book

Mary Sarah aglitotta is an amazing narrator that brings this story to life. Don’t ever switch narrators !

Disappointed/Distracting

The story is excellent just like all of Tamara Leigh’s books but I was disappointed with the audible. I’ve listened to every one of her books on audible and they were great, but for some reason this one wasn’t read the same. The character voices were great but the narration in between was unnecessarily exaggerated, droning out words to be dramatic and the English accent sounded fake from trying too hard. In addition there were a lot of times the narrator was just reading words in an overly dramatic fake accent and not really paying attention to the subject/context being read. Really distracting. I will read the next book in the series on my own.
