Publisher's summary

Who can you trust when no one is who they seem? Aided by his wife Ria and friend Dev, Partho’s long overdue vacation on the US east coast is finally on. But mysteries have a way of tracking him down, especially the sinister ones. It started out as a cheerful family outing to a Spanish restaurant on Thanksgiving Eve. Somewhere in between the entrée and the dessert, it has turned into a calamity, embroiling them in a sinister plot involving an escaped convict, assassinations, and corporate greed and malfeasance. When Partho’s expedition becomes unwittingly entangled with the target everyone is looking for - an escaped death-row inmate - he has no other choice but to tackle it head-on. Will their vacation turn deadly before they can solve the case?

Enjoyable - a new Sherlock and Watson duo?

While the book takes a while in getting going, you eventually become immersed in the many characters that appear through much of the book. So much so that you then realize that this the allure of this book, the steady pace in which characters are developed and the plot unwinds. Recommended for Conan Doyle fans since there is much about this duo Partho and Dev that reminds me of Sherlock Holmes’ novels.

Classic Mystery

I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book is reminiscent of old detective shows you used to find on TV. The premise of the plot is well constructed and action packed, but there are a lot of extraneous details included throughout which I found frustrating (especially in the beginning). Therefore there were several lulls in the story that almost made me want to stop listening. In addition, I didn't care for the southern drawl of the narrator and the sound effects, because it made for a difficult listen.

Overall I thought this book was interesting, and definitely different from modern day mysteries. The characters were unique and well developed. If you like classic mysteries, that take time to develop, you will enjoy this book.

Good. Shows potential

This was good. More like a classic detective novel. I listened to it while on a long car journey and got through most of it in one go.

Good follow up to the first book

Again a fun book. I’m glad the wife played more of a role in this story. The characters continue to develop and I enjoy the travel aspect.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good!

This was a classic mystery book. As good as the first and just as gripping. It sucked me in right away and I loved it. Good plot and amazing pacing. The narrator was great as well.

Recommended - different in many ways.

Written through the narrative of Dev, a friend and companion of the the main character, Partho, this story unfolds at a steady yet agreeable pace, introducing us to a wide range of interesting characters and bizarre events.
The sleuth detective Partho, his wife, and friend Dev arrive in the US from India after a long journey. Partho’s broad knowledge soon becomes apparent with discussions ranging from the use of unorthodox medicine to the merits of scientific discovery.
The book is generally very good. My one comment would be that I would prefer an audio narrator with a more international accent rather than a southern drawl, but otherwise it is generally well narrated and the plot of the book does entertain. It was refreshing to listen to a detective novel so removed from the so often predictable plots you get in modern novels today.

The best!

Good fun and uncommon sense! Partho is a brilliant man who makes interesting small electronic devices and has a fine deductive mind. Dev is his brother-in-law and the one who relates all of the goings on. Their home is in India, but they are having an interesting vacation in the Eastern US where Partho is recognised as a detective in his home land. The descriptions of people, places, and events are clear and realistic. The plot is fast, twisty, and imaginative. I loved it!
The audio is a treat and found it interesting to listen to the Georgia accented American English of Joseph G Deak. I was really entertained by the various sound effects and appreciated his voice differentiation of the many characters.
