Publisher's summary

In the northern reaches of Eon, there lies a city cast in shadow, a place for the outlaws and the rogues of the realm to dwell. Free from the reach of Eon's mighty guilds, it is a place where adepts come to live by their own rules and test their strength with techniques long forbidden.

The Sky Wolves are no different.

Pursued by a group of ruthless killers, Roy and his guild of mavericks have set their sights on the city of Shadowreach in hopes of finding refuge. However, not everyone in the guild may be strong enough to withstand the many threats that lie within the city's walls...

In pursuit of greater strength, Roy will attempt to transform his body into a weapon able to withstand the strike of a soulblade or the burn of a mystic's spirit flame. The question is, will it be enough to ensure his survival in the city of rogue adepts?

This is a cultivation novel with wuxia/xianxia and LitRPG elements.

good story, okay writing

the author has good pacing, problem is every fight is written with a reversal of expectations. almost childish for one person to do a deus ex machina only for it to fail because it is countered by a reverse deus ex machine. it is annoying.

That was FANTASTIC!

The first book of this series was excellent! I listened to it again when when I saw book two had finally released on Audible and it was just as good the second time. Bounty of Blades builds on what I loved about book one and reveals even more about this dangerous world and its people, both good and bad.

The action in the story was intense (especially the end) and I didn't want to stop listening! The small band of people that surround the MC come into their own even more with book two. They are all unique, interesting, and likable. Each one carries some of the story and adds to its depth. I hope to see more of each of them in the future.

Andrew Tell does another excellent job narrating and really there are no downsides here. Except length. But Darren Hultburg Jr tells an awesome story in 7hrs and I guess there is something to be said for leaving your audience wanting more. I want more!

Absolutely phenomenal!

Another amazing book this has amazing character development and an even richer world. Darren Hultberg has done an phenomenal job he leave you intrigued and mystified with what's going to happen next. At the same time he does not leave it to the point where its future creeping it's a very complete second book. I can't wait for the next book!

Okay

An okay followup to the first book in the series. I did feel like there was a lot of potential to build out the world the story is set in that was just squandered. While the action scenes were described decently well the transitions felt extremely rushed and basically ignored.

Good

I enjoyed this book a lot, it's a little short for my tastes but it packs a lot into its runtime.
