Publisher's summary

In the jungles of Vietnam, innocence is the first casualty of war...

Nineteen-year-old Eddie Henderson is a private in the US Army. His parents are deceased, and he has no one in his life except his platoon brothers - Porter, Rocky, and Professor. His fellow soldiers are his family now. But none share a bond as close as he and his best friend, team leader Mitch Drexler.

In the heat and jungles of Vietnam, each man does the best he can to survive. Battles are fought, friends lost, and promises made to the fallen. But when the enemy fatally wounds a platoon brother in a deadly attack, the dying soldier makes Eddie promise to fulfill a final vow… A debt of blood that could change the course of his life forever.

When Eddie and his friends’ tours are over, they return home to a world they barely remember. But Eddie is still trapped in the past. He has no family, no home to go back to. Just a nightmare he lives over and over again. A dark vow he made to a dying friend. And one question, burning in his mind...

Will he keep his promise to his friend? No matter the cost?

Gripping story

I want to thank the vets for their service. A bit of a spoiler. My dad also suffered from exposure to agent orange. It shortened his life but at least he made it home, when so many didn’t. He never really talked about it much until the last years of him life. The things they went through and seen are unimaginable, thank you for sharing your story and god bless all the vets, true American heroes.

Realistic

I read the first half of the book but got tired of putting the book down because I would get tired as I like to read on my back. I started it over with the audio book and the narrator Chris is delight to listen to. I felt like he was right in there with the action and soon I was too. If you like the freedom of reading for what ever reason I highly recommend the audio version. That being said I enjoyed the the book because I was not looking for SCIFI Rambo book but one that was real and that is exactly what I got from Promises to the Fallen. I felt like I was there step by step and did not want it to end. I am looking forward to what ever the follow on is. I was in my late teen's and early twenty during the war. I was in the ARMY at the time but service state side for my duration my hats off to those that serviced in combat.

Brothers in War

This is a very interesting story of war and the brotherhood it creates. There's Henderson and the other men, living and fighting in Vietnam knowing that their lives are in danger at every moment. Will they make it out alive? Around them their team members and brothers fight and die, and repeat the cycle over and over. It's a mind numbing cycle. The story itself lags in many parts, making it hard to connect to any particular character. But the reality of war is never far from the reader's mind the entire time. Chris Monteiro does a great job, especially voicing various characters. That's where his strong suit lies. Good all around read.
