Publisher's summary

From the best-selling author of the Cambria Clyne Mystery Series, rated "hilarious" by Huffington Post, comes a new laugh-out-loud cozy mystery with a paranormal twist....

My name is Zoe Lane, and I see dead people.

Well, I see one dead person. Willie MacIntosh, a 90-something-year-old multi-millionaire, who looks 30, has a demanding personality and a strong opinion on my wardrobe and my love life, and wants to know how he died.

The problem is, there were a lot of people who wanted Willie MacIntosh dead, and it's my job to figure out who the killer is. At least, I think it's my job. This whole medium gig is new to me. What I do know for sure is that digging around in a dead stranger's life, especially when there's a multi-million dollar inheritance on the line, is a dangerous business.

If I'm not careful, the next dead person will be me.

Fun mystery with a great narrator

I’m a busy mom who only has time to listen to books. Many times I’m lost because of multitasking, but this book kept me so engaged. I thought the narrator was really good and the story kept me wondering til the end. This was my first Erin Huss book, I look forward to listening to more from this author.

Humorous Mystery

This was a humorous cozy mystery and did have laugh out loud moments in it. The narrator of the audio book was really good at depicting the characters. The parents at least, were a bit over the top in characterization but that is what made it so funny. They would be good movie characters.

As for the mystery, I didn't figure out who dunnit ahead of time so it was a mystery to me through the entire book and what came after the reveal was a surprise to me as well. A sweet surprise.

The narrator did a good job. Overall, I enjoyed the story.

Sex: sexual references, some crudity
Language: yes, mostly mild but some crudity
Violence: a little

*I received a complimentary copy of the audio book and voluntarily choose to review it.

Making a Medium

I don’t usually choose a book about the paranormal but was intrigued by this one b/c of the reviews & the stated humor by reviewers. At first I thought I made the wrong decision when purchasing this one as the protagonist is a 23 year old who acted more like an early teen. But I tried to listen for a bit longer & became more connected to the story. Yes, there is humor & mystery & murder & so much more to this tale that finally won me over. I’ll definitely be checking out more that this series has to offer!

Fun and so well read

Not my usual read. I mostly like my mysteries with more blood and violence. But, this one had me laughing at times. Excellent voices that make it easy to picture each person in the mind’s eye.

An entertaining story with excellent narration

Emily Wilson has done a first-rate job narrating MAKING A MEDIUM, a cosy mystery and the first book in the Lost Souls Lane Mystery Series, which brings together a quirky group of characters that often had me laughing out loud.

It’s no secret that I rarely read paranormal/fantasy books but I’ve read and enjoyed Erin Huss’ Cambria Clyne mysteries, so I decided to give this book a go. It was a good decision because I found the book highly entertaining.

Humorous? When?

I read to the 12th chapter. Never funny. And the lead character; helpless 23 yr old, never had a job, lives with her parents (totally reliant on them), doesn't have a computer. That's not cozy; it's sad. And the ghost she's linked to? 93 yrs old. This is not cozy. It is a scifi set in the 50's, not in 2023. I found it boring.
