Publisher's summary

After a harrowing escape from the Weatherblight, Ari, Kerys, and Eva find themselves on Deepwater Spire, an ancient structure surrounded by endless ocean. With no other options, they bide their time, slowly building up the essence they need to reactivate the teleportation wards that will allow them to travel freely.

Their isolation takes on a life of its own, manifesting as much in their relationships with each other as their situation in the world. Kerys chafes at her inability to help explore the Spire in a meaningful way. Eva remains wary of the ghosts of her past, the memories that building the bond between her and Ari threaten to bring back.

And Ari hungers for a path forward that will let him keep his friends safe, preferably one that also leads to food more palatable than the bird meat they’ve been surviving off.

Warning: This audiobook contains a significant amount of explicit sexual content and some adult emotional situations. Listener discretion is advised.

Excellent second book!

This was an excellent continuation of the series and I look forward to the next audiobook! The plot is developing steadily and the characters are growing in ways I certainly didn’t foresee! I’m looking forward to the next 2 books coming to Audible! Soon I hope.

Feels a little slow. Interested in the next

Pretty good, just feels like it takes awhile for anything meaningful to happen. Certain big incident felt a little out of nowhere and not in a well setup kind of way.

Not terrible

I do like this sort of book, but my issue is one i kind of have with this sort of, i guess genre, in that the main charecter basically has dumb bitch syndrome. If their is a wrong choice to be made he will make it. Thats not to say all of the plot is driven by bad decisions dinosaur or even some of them cant be explained by inexperience, but the vast majority of the mcs problems, and other mcs ive read like him comes from his inability to just fucking talk to the people in his life and tell them whats going on. He tries to shame one of his most useful companions into being open and honest with him all the while never opening up and twlling her about his problems when she is probably THE MOST qualified person to try and figure out how to help him. Instead NOOOO WE MUST KEEP DE SECRETS FROM EVERY ONE CAUSE IT DRIVES PLOT CREATES TENSION! and when he inevitably gets his problem fixed and comes to his fucking sences hes gonna find out the girl hes crushing on decided shes fone with his shit and gos to fuck some one less of a bitch, creating an all knew form of tension.. but that last part is more of a guess..

Enjoyed It!

I received a free review copy.

I enjoyed this book. There are surprises and twists, including some tough setbacks for Ari, Kerys, and Eva. I liked how they explored a variety of areas in this book, which kept it interesting. It makes for an action-packed book as so many things happen. Having listened to it, I appreciate the characters even more than I did during the last book as they continue to be filled out. The narrator does a great job.

Falls quite squarely on Mediocre

I normally just give a book some stars and call it a day. This one, however, just seemed to make a long day of driving drag just a little bit more. It says something about a book when I needed to take a break from listening to muster enough stubbornness to finish it.

Relating to the MC gets harder by the chapter while the story seems to meander without any real direction for most of the book. What gets me the worst is the lack of any quantifiable progress in the relationships.

As for the narration. I like the tonal quality, but the inhalation every other word to maintain the unusual accent gets a bit jarring. It might not be so bad in smaller doses. I tend to marathon books while I drive
