This Book Is Exactly As The Title Says

This book is brutal, I was glad when Harvey sicked Sam on Chas and Clay, the horrible things they did to people, and when Sam started giving them a taste of their own medicine, they sniveled and cried and they were like why are you doing this to us., I am glad what Sam did to them at the end, but I did not like what Sam did to the family at the farmhouse, like Harvey told Sam "you could have went out as the hero" but Sam just sat there and said nothing. So the author left an opening for maybe a book #2....The narration was decent, so if this is your thing , hardcore violence & torture check this book out....I received this free in an audiobook promotion and am leaving my voluntary review.

The Good, the Bad, and the Sadistic

I really enjoy Jon Athan’s writing style and I never liked horror before. He comes up with some of the most gruesome things and know how to shock you. Chelsea Kirkpatrick's narration was a bit monotone. Although the story was good, it would have been better with a different narrataor. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Better in a book.

I rather read made up stories like this. Then reading this, in the news or reading it in a NEWSPAPER that it's a true story.

Eureka!

I figured it out. These stories from authors like Athan, Little, Kilborn, have some interesting premises, good descriptions of shocking violence, but there always seems like something's wrong, and now I know. None of these guys have ever actually been involved in real violence. They were the kids who stayed in with the teachers at recess in school if someone called them out to fight. It's phony. Of course I'm not saying that murdering gangsters and killers should be writing books, I just mean these are guys who don't understand what it means if they are talking to someone at a party or bar and that person takes half a step backward and starts to "itch his beard"

So sick! So Twisted! Why did I love it?

Ok, granted they used a ton of shock value cruelty and torture but apparently I’m sick, twisted, and weird! Totally loved it. Revenge is a subject I always look for in books and this had me almost cheering at one point! I read the review about the narrator and listened to the sample before buying but it didn’t bother me at all. The killers are young and I thought the artist captured their childish bragging and whining perfectly. Anyway, I need to attend a worship service now and clean my brainball!

Natural Born Killers meets Dexter

I have listened to a few of Athan's books. This one was the most entertaining one thus far. It's basically Mickey and Mallory from Natural Born Killers on a killing spree, and Dexter is on their tails. The killer couple in this one is Clayton and Cassidy who are fleshed out pretty well. They are definitely bad people and make Mickey and Mallory seem like Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Athan writes no holds barred extreme horror which is why I am a fan. This isn't for the faint of heart and the content will be too much for most listeners. I will say the last half of the story when Sam, the serial Killer, showed up I had to suspend my disbelief big time. There were some eyeroll sections of "there's no way this would happen." In the other Athan audiobooks, the narration has always been average but serviceable. This time is different. Chelsea Kirkpatrick does a really impressive job. She was able to change up voices really well and act in a way that the characters would act in real life. Her sound equipment isn't quite up to snuff, but don't let that deter you. She did an amazing job. If you are into extreme horror, I recommend this audiobook wholeheartedly. This novel is more Serbian Film than Scream if you know what I'm saying. Take that into account before you purchase. Don't leave a bad review because the content is extreme...it is supposed to be.

AWESOME book with awesome narration!

The Good, the Bad, and the Sadistic is an extremely graphic and intense book in true Jon Athan style. If you're a fan of movies like I Saw the Devil you'll DEFINITELY appreciate this one. The antagonists are extremely sick and the methods the protagonist uses to catch and punish them are very twisted. And as brutally violent this book is Chelsea Kirkpatrick's narration is eerily beautiful. She does a fantastic job and I look forward to listening to more books narrated by her in the future.

5/5 - highly recommended!
