Publisher's summary

A tip-off about a mysterious house near Mallaig tempts DI Gavin McKay to set up surveillance. His boss becomes a suspect, and he has to pretend to shut down his investigation, but the subsequent death of his informant and trust issues within his office make him determined to continue.

When McKay is tasked with finding the identity of a woman washed up on an island off the coast of Scotland suffering from amnesia, he uses this as a way of continuing digging.

The mystery deepens when a link is made between the woman and the house in Mallaig. Bombs, blackmail, and more are revealed as he delves into how his boss is connected. Romance blossoms between the woman and the doctor who rescues her and puts McKay back in touch with an old flame. Can he trust them to keep the woman safe while he completes his investigation?

Well plotted mystery

I don't usually enjoy romance, so having one cleverly entwined in a mystery was very nice. I appreciated that there were several characters whose honesty and intentions remained questionable right up to the ending--so the outcome was never predictable.
The reader has a soothing voice--very important to me as I was stuck in a darkened room with migraine when I listened to it.
I have this as a Kindle book as well as an Audible choice.

This satisfying mystery kept me guessing.

This well written novel begins when DI Gavin McKay decides to investigate, in secret, what could be police corruption by his supervisor. When a physician friend of his finds and rescues an unconscious woman from the ocean who has no memory of who she is or how she wound up in the water is added to this challenge the mystery proceeds on many levels. The author keeps the forward motion going at a steady pace despite twists and puzzles in the story line. Both the author and narrator have done a fine job in delivering an absorbing story and keeping me guessing. I love a mystery when I can’t firmly guess the ending. Kudos.
