Is she the promise to a cure or the key to ultimate destruction?

Based on a true event.

On February 24, 1942, the Battle of Los Angeles began when the 37th Coastal Artillery Brigade opened fire on a spacecraft of alien origin. This is one account of what transpired in the days to follow.

Spreads itself a bit too thin to remain memorable.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I really wanted to like this book but it tears itself down by trying to do too many things at once. Without spoiling the plot, there's at least five different types of horror story trying to happen here and often it feels like the book wants to be an anthology rather than a continuous narrative. Many of the chapters don't connect together cleanly and feel like they could be interchangeable save for the first and last. On a positive note, the narration is excellent and some of the prose is nicely evocative, especially in the chapters that don't involve some sort of combat.

Excellent story! Excellent Narration!

I love a good science fiction story!! When you combine a good world-build with awesome and flawed characters, along with excellent narration, then the sci-fi book gods are indeed pleased.

It was such a thrill listening to this book! You know but you don't know what's happening. As the reader/listener, you are learning just as Rose, the main character, learns. This is a beautifully well-written ad suspenseful story.

I can't say enough about the awesomeness of the narrator. Kline and Romero combined to make one heck of a great listen!

The Girl Who's Made of Leaves

The thoughts going through my head while taking this book in were "this is just like The Girl with All the Gifts", "I really like how this is playing out", "this isn't going to be good", "how in the name of botany is this going to end", "sweet, that was well done". There were a lot of similarities between this book and others I have read, but ultimately that is the case with almost everything I read. I enjoyed the way the tale played out. The plot building and the ultimate culmination of events leading to their resolution were spot on in my opinion. I was surprised and content at the same time. Good work.

Give it a chance...

It took a minute for this book to draw me in. In fact, I restarted it after a few chapters twice because it lost my attention and I had no clue what was going on. Once I gave it my full attention, I really enjoyed it. Sierra Kline did an amazing job with the narration. I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

A future classic

The Girl who's made of Leaves. .
This book transcends at least 3 genres - Dystopian, Sci-fi and Alternative history.
It will probably become a classic read.
It is a complex plot with strange characters who struggle to survive the aliens.
1st class narration.

This book has a twist!

This book reminded me so much of The Girl with all the Gifts. However, there is a major twist in it that you dont even see coming. That revives the story and makes you want to know what will happen.
