More Mystery, Less Relationship Drama

I enjoy mystery and suspense, but can due without the gory details. That's why I really enjoyed the Peyton Brooks' Mysteries Box Set and thought I'd really enjoy the Peyton Brooks, FBI Box Set. Unfortunately, instead of being about a young female crime solver who is sought-after by the FBI, it's more about the tenuous relationship she has with her whiny fiance. I found this to be incredibly tedious and became so annoyed I had to stop listening mid-way through the 3rd book. If you're into relationship drama this books for you. If you're looking for an intriguing mystery novel you're going to want to look elsewhere.

Enjoyed

I listen to these while at work during the day, these help my day progress pretty contently (if that's a word). I became invested in the characters after I learned to adjust to the narrator. I don't really like the narrator. I don't like her using accents...sometimes the Marco/Peyton situation became annoying, but maybe cause I know folks like that in real life..Anyway, if you like entertaining stories that move along nicely, where you may be able to picture the characters. I recommend this

Utter waste of a credit

Nancy Drew/The Hardy Boys try to do D.D. Warren/Harry Bosch
(And fail, miserably.)

I'm all about flawed characters but the characters in these story lines are flat out cartoonish and without depth. I have tired for six hours to find something about any of the characters that is even slightly appealing and just can't.

At the core, Peyton is whiney, with no back bone.

The characters built around her, the support cast so to speak, so over the top cartoonish the whole thing feels like a 9th grader is writing a back yard play about something they think they have a working knowledge of but really have no clue how the real world works, how adults interact. The stereo types that flood the story lines is just mind boggling. A quick google search shows the author is a high school English teacher and it shows in the writing style...or lack thereof...in the story lines and character building.

Narration is seriously lacking.
The narrator doesn't have enough range in skill for the amount of character voices needed. The inflections, accents and cadence are grating on the ears. Fact is, the narrator doesn't have much to work with in the characters so it was a stab in the dark to find enough range to assign each character something distinct enough so they each each stand alone in the narration. The stereotyping the author used in the characters is about the only thing the narrator has to use to get a sense of the characters and sadly, they grabbed that with gusto and took the stereotyping of each character over the top in the narration.

Horrible

Books are terrible. Both content and narration. Children’s stories would be more interesting. Sorry but this waste not money well spent.

Good Series

Good law enforcement series, short and long term plots, all types of life issues to solve.

I really enjoyed the books.

The narrator on this one is pretty bad! In one book there is a character that they state is highly intelligent and yet she reads with a voice that comes across as mentally retarded.
