“Black Box Inc is a hoot and a half from beginning to end.” –Reading Reality

Bram Stoker Award ® Nominated Author

Unspeakable horrors have been unleashed on Asheville, North Carolina.

Spectral demons tear victims apart from the inside out, leaving nothing but gory destruction in their wake. And their next victim is one of the biggest extradimensional crime lords around—the One Guy. To survive a fate equal to but also worse than death, he’ll have to convince Black Box Inc. to save his sorry ass.

Chase Lawter and his crack team—an omnisexual yeti, an ex-Fae assassin, and a business savvy zombie—are tasked with transporting the One Guy to Washington, D. C. where the Department of Extradimensional Affairs will put the crime lord into protective custody. That is, if Chase and Black Box Inc. can evade blood ghasts, dimentionalist rednecks, vengeance-seeking kobolds, and whatever other enemies are in hot pursuit of the One Guy.

He’s made a lot of enemies. Including Chase, who knows you can’t trust the One Guy as far as you can throw him.

Thrilling, fast action story

I love this fun, action packed story. Chase Lawter and his Black Box Inc. team of an ex-fae assassin, a highly sexual yeti and a shrewd business zombie are maneuvered by the DEA into transporting Chase’s old nemesis, The One Guy, to Washington, DC. Sounds simple, but when deadly blood ghasts, avenging kobolds, bigoted rednecks and opposing DEA factions are trying to stop you, then things tend to go wrong. The action, humour, snark and array of mythical creatures in this story is great. I love Harper’s loyalty and determination, Sharon’s no-nonsense business acumen, Lasa’s horniness and Chase’s ability to eat! The storyline is an entertaining, twisting ride with great characters and thrilling action. The narrator, J Scott Bennett, brought the story to life, giving individual voices to the characters and really showing the sarcasm and humour in the book. This is a thrilling story that ends with Chase’s desperate actions against the blood ghasts coming back to haunt him. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

AWESOME SECOND ADDITION TO SERIES, GHASTLY GOOD!

I absolutely loved the first book in the series, Black Box Inc., and was sure I'd love the second installment just as much. And, totally do love it! Again, it's gross, hilarious, scary, creepy, great action and suspense, a total creepily fun ride. I really loved the smart-a$$y language, the writing, and the narration are great. Definitely recommend this series to everyone!!

Book 2

A fun fantasy story that is written in an intriguing way. It was hard to put it down which is consistent - I can’t wait for the sequel in the series. It gets more exciting.

The Chase is On

Chase Lawter is at it again, and even in spite of the multi-dimensional happening, he finds himself and his crew in more danger than human or supernaturally possible. As usual the solutions needed in the present come back to haunt him. In this second installment there is even more intrigue, wordplay, and deception than in dealings with the fae mafia.

The continuing Narrator as always gives life and variety to the returning cast. Some of the new characters are similar to the main cast, though thankfully the dialogue and interchange keeps the similar voices separated. As always Chase's drastic changes of fortune and mood are well expressed by the narrator's range.

Thankfully the second installment does not bounce around abruptly between scenes, but the listener still needs to pay attention to catch the nuances of this more intrigue based installment. I can truthfully say I am hooked on the series and the ending leaves me wanting to beg both author and narrator for more.

The Defiler of Dimensions

Really fun story. Interdimensional beings, magic, dragons, trolls, a horny yeti, and a tough chick who likes blades take The One Guy into their protective custody and travel to DC. After that, in between a lot of meals, they have a magical car chase story. Protecting The One Guy isn’t an easy task and the motley Black Box crew runs into all sorts of characters. There are all sorts of mythical creatures, while the gorgon was my favorite, Harper definitely has my favorite personality. Lasa is a cool dude but Harper steals my heart hands down.
I really enjoyed the car setting. I love car chase movies and the box truck portions were the best. I loved how they always ended up eating and the descriptions of the food. Can’t tell you how hungry this book made me. Enjoyed Chase looking for the Texas Pete Hot Sauce, love me some Texas Pete. Typical fantasy science fiction story, don’t expect Hemingway, but this was a lot of fun. I didn’t get the first book, but on board for the rest to come. This completes a whole story but cues up for the next, can’t wait.
For a fantasy novel this does actually have some good moral value. It touches slightly on the problems of racism and Violet’s wrathful story of family vengeance was a lesson in loving your enemies.
J. Scott Bennett is a phenomenal narrator. His narration voice is great but his character voices are greater. He really gets into the moment of the story and adds a lot of energy to the story. This story couldn’t have been as fun without his narration.

2nd installment of a unique urban fantasy series

This story resolves around a certain town here in the USA that I happen to be familiar with so I live the references to the area. The tale follows a small entrepreneurial business that was created after the paranormal/multidimensional barriers failed and our world was inundated with unique creatures from all types of faerie tales good and bad. Their business? Boxes. Boxes that only one man, the defiler of dimensions can make. This 2nd installment reveals the reason the royal linoleum head was needed. Dark mysteries from the past, governmental strife and more plot twists and switchbacks then a West Virginia mountain road. Enjoy this wonderfully narrated story. Great story.

The narrator was pretty good juggling the different voices. The characters were all comical in their own way, but that's what keeps me listening. Love the Jake Bible stories.
