Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Elin Hilderbrand, comes a novel about the many ways family can fill our lives with love...if they don't kill us first.

It's wedding season on Nantucket. The beautiful island is overrun with summer people - an annual source of aggravation for year-round residents. And that's not the only tension brewing offshore. When one lavish wedding ends in disaster before it can even begin - with the bride-to-be discovered dead in Nantucket Harbor just hours before the ceremony - everyone in the wedding party is suddenly a suspect. As Chief of Police Ed Kapenash digs into the best man, the maid of honor, the groom's famous mystery novelist mother, and even a member of his own family, the chief discovers that every wedding is a minefield - and no couple is perfect.

Featuring beloved characters from The Castaways and A Summer Affair, The Perfect Couple proves once again that Elin Hilderbrand is the queen of the summer beach book.

Perfect summer listen

I'm a fan of Elin Hildebrand and I enjoyed this, couldn't stop listening. There is a death on the morning of the wedding that doesn't hsppen. There is a mystery and lots of secrets are revealed. Only 4 stars for the story as the relationship between the bride and groom never quite works. But v re ry enjoyable nonetheless, the other characters were very well drawn.

Wow

Wow! I could barely wait to get to the end of this book to see what would happen. I was not disappointed. A great thriller.

Puzzled

I can’t figure out if Elin Hilderbrand always wrote so awkwardly or if it’s a new “style”. The way she jumps around characters, and the back and forth from the past and present left me cold. There were so many throw away characters that added nothing to the story I lost track- one or two paragraphs about some peripheral character with a first and last name and a few details about their life that led nowhere. It felt like the author finished the book, decided it was too short, made up a list of people that might live there and went back in and inserted them in here and there. There were many extraneous details that were thrown in as well that went nowhere- Scooter’s Mother’s demise, for example, was thrown in at the end for no reason. There wasn’t much resolution for any of the plot lines. Just really disappointed. I use to love her books.

Delicious

Delicious as usual! Absolutely love slight twist of Ms Hilderbrand’s usual (and fantastic) summer read with a mystery. Well done!!

What a easy fun beach read.

I really enjoyed this book! I love that it was written from all the characters perspectives. Lots of juicy drama! Easy and fun to read, loved this book.

One of the worst books I've ever read.

There was no main character. Written in first person with a cast of characters so huge, none of them were really developed. It was a love story with no happy ending. The good guys lost. The murder turned out not to be murder. Just a group of people who were just nasty. Total waste of my time! Will not read another by this author.

latest "B-movie" Nothing particularly memorable

This book didn’t sound like a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g I’d want to read... (I’m so over Nantucket/Martha’s vineyard backdrops and stories about crazy rich/desperate housewives/privileged alpha males...) but when a friend said it was captivating her I decided to download it before my trip.

Holy hell was I sucked in and gobsmacked in the first few chapters, so much so that it took my sister's wedding (truly!) to get me to stop listening (and I jumped right back in the moment I could). Then around 65% I started growing tired and by 80% I was over it... kicking myself for starting this book... remembering why I am “over” these stories. It's OKAY.

You'll feel tired at the end and yawn with how boring and predictable it ends up being... but it’s is compelling and a hooker of a beach read if you need that. Nothing particularly memorable or new or special... just the latest B movie no one will remember next summer.

Disappointing

Im a big Elin Hilderbrand fan and have read or listened to all her books. This book was very disappointing to me. I didn't like it enough to even bother with a full review. I will continue to be a fan and hope the next book is better.

Skip this one

This story was not good at all. The narration was horrendous. No audio book narrator should read "he said" "she said" repeatedly throughout the entire novel...absolutely distracts from the dialog and story...just AWFUL

The terminal cancer storyline was unrealistic and while yes, this is fiction, that part of the story was simply too ridiculous to fit into the overall story.

I usually enjoy Elin's Nantucket stories...this is the first one in which I've been truly disappointed.

It’s Okay

This is definitely not my favorite Elin Hilderbtand book. I know it explains how who we see as the ideal couple never is, but I wish I liked the characters and story more.
