Publisher's summary

A better man would’ve walked away by now - but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised I’d keep enough distance.

If I closed my eyes, I could still see her - all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would. Lake was still everything I wanted, and nothing I should ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after.

But the only way to love her was to let her shine - even if it would be for someone else.

Book two in a completed USA Today bestselling forbidden love saga.

HOLD ME

We pick up right where we left off, where everything is horrible and nothing is settled. From there, we spend the book with brows furrowed and noses sniffling.

The choices Manning is forced to make are completely selfless but incredibly heartbreaking and intense. The problem lies in that there was no real happiness the entire book. I do think that the reader deserves to be thrown a bone now and then for sticking through it, and that just hasn’t happened. I’m in this audio voyage 16 hours now and feel just depressed. Thank goodness I can finish the series and don’t have to wait.

That being said, the writing, the character development, the plot development... I’m freaking hooked. There is nothing I want more than to finish this series. I need this HEA. I need it. More than anything. So onto book 3 I go.

I feel CHEATED!!

This is the 2 book in a 4 book series.I knew that going in but what I didn't know was the last 2 books
Are not on Audible .The last 2 are only available in books. I listen to audio books because my eye sight is not as good as it use to be also with audio I can listen at work.
I really enjoyed this book and the first one .The author did an amazing job pulling you into the
World she created. It was so easy to embrace these people with the wonderful narration .Another reason for choosing an audio because the book is given voice and brought to life.
These are the first books I have tried by this author I love her style but I will not get any more
Unless I know all the books in the series are available on audio. I feel really cheated it is like watching a movie and it ends right in the middle and you never get to see the end.
The author and Audible did a rotten thing !!!!!!!

Sweet Torture!

Ahhhh why do I put myself through this sweet torture! I want to hate Manning and Lake so bad for doing this to themselves! But it's an addiction I can't quit! I can't wait until book 3! Hopefully I will get some kind of hope I've been clinging onto.
Love my Andi and Zachary!

if Loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right

I was initially hesitant to listening to this book because I'm not a fan of creepy Lolita type of books. Fortunately, there was so many 5 star reviews that helped me understand it really was not that type of book. There is no underage sex in this book. Yet, it. is a forbidden love story. This series is more of a coming of age and sisterly rivalry that goes too far.

In Book two, Lake and Manning have not have contact in four years due to Mannings marriage to Tiffany, Lake moving to New York and Manning's parole contraints. When Manning's legal problems are behind him....all bets are off and he goes to New York to check up on Lake. and for as much as his intentions start out almost brotherly, well old feeling for Lake resurface.

The first book was more like a drama, but this book explodes with love and forbidden sexual desire that makes Lake and Manning forget any moral responsibility towards others. This author's gifted writing, sucked me in with her beautiful words and intense scenes that made it extremely difficult for me stop the audio. I blew through all three books in two days. These books are emotional and intense that make it difficult to forget Lake, Manning and all the characters involved with this tearful story.

Additionally, this audio book has two of the best narrators in the industry. 5 star story and nnarrator's. All three books are worth the purchase.

Refund!

I’m a very honest reviewer and I’m sad that this series is not higher on the rating scale. First off, I am not a big fan of authors trying to siphon money from readers with long drawn out repetitive series. It’s tacky and tasteless. There is absolutely no logical point in showing the same issues over and over and over. We get it, the age is an issue, we’ve established that conflict in book 1. The pacing was HORRIBLE. Filler scenes up the ass in this series. You get nowhere in these books. A whole lot of nothing happening in the pages. A crap load of internal yapping that goes in circles. Now, my second issue is the overall emotions I felt reading this book..., I read for escapism and joy. Don’t get me wrong I like my stories to have unique conflicts, this..., this series never brought that joy, that happiness and fulfillment that one gets from stories, that desire to “know” the world the author has created and wish to be a part of it. It is a nonstop roller coaster of frustration and no overall champion character to care about. They all ruin the story. Not one actual redeeming quality to either of them. I am most sadden by that revelation the most. I truly and whole heartedly wanted this to be a series to fall in love with. I so desperately hoped I’d have a new series to spread to my friends and talk to them about the characters like the characters are real people. I have never read any of this author’s books before. Sadly, this series has turned me off from delving into anything else she offers. I do not like feeling taken advantage of... so I will be getting my money back. As much as I absolutely adore and follow the narrators I still couldn’t justify the price for the literature that was provided. I know what I’ve written is pretty harsh, I just couldn’t bypass writing a very honest review. I work hard for my money and spend hours reading/listening. It is time I cannot replace.

Captivating Series!

This is the second book in the Something in the Way Series. The story continues where the first book left off. Manning and Lake's story is emotional, heartbreaking, captivating, and so beautiful! Impossible to put it down! My heart broke for these two beautiful characters. Manning is handsome, selfless, and protective. Lake is such a beautiful character, naive, but strong, smart, and caring. I am looking forward to listen to Move the Stars, the next book in the Series! Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber did a fantastic job with the narration. I enjoyed it.

Loved & Hated this book-A must read series

Just like book one, I had a hard time putting it down. At times, I was so angry and heartbroken by what Lake was having to go through. I understood and could feel her pain. I cried with her through most of this story remembering those same feelings for myself.

Watching these characters grow up was surreal and painful at times. Knowing what it was like to give up on something that you truly felt was your world. Jessica Hawkins is a wonderful story teller bringing out the Passion and emotions that people can relate to. Many times in this book I wanted to turn it off throw it and walk away all at the same time of wanting to finish their story. The emotional rollercoaster at times was hard to bare.

In book 2, Lake and Manning continue to struggle with what is right and wrong and make choices that can hurt the other. Again I could not wait to start book 3 and had to go back and write this review.

What a disappointing ending for two lovers.

I went through Book 1 and Book 2 to end up crying my heart out after struggling through all the barriers these lovers endured. Nothing could be more disappointing than hoping for a beautiful ending and resulting in heartbreak.

It also peeves me to think that a parent can be so demanding and underhanded as to put such demands on his children's future the way he wants. I wanted to see him defeated of his arrogance and power over his family

I hope book 3 will resolve the separation of Manning and Lake, and that they may get back together and have a happy ending. I am left frustrated!

Beautiful!

Love, romance, heartbreak, angst, this book has it all! It will make you shout out loud to the characters, and cause a feeling of emptiness in your heart when it ends! Jessica Hawkins, your writing is amazing and as all your series do, this book leaves the listener yearning for the next book!
