In her bestselling Alpha and Omega series, Patricia Briggs "spins tales of werewolves, coyote shifters, and magic and, my, does she do it well" (USA Today Online). Now mated werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham face a threat like no other--one that lurks too close to home...

They are the wild and the broken. The werewolves too damaged to live safely among their own kind. For their own good, they have been exiled to the outskirts of Aspen Creek, Montana. Close enough to the Marrok's pack to have its support; far enough away to not cause any harm.

With their Alpha out of the country, Charles and Anna are on call when an SOS comes in from the fae mate of one such wildling. Heading into the mountainous wilderness, they interrupt the abduction of the wolf--but can't stop blood from being shed. Now Charles and Anna must use their skills--his as enforcer, hers as peacemaker--to track down the attackers, reopening a painful chapter in the past that springs from the darkest magic of the witchborn...

This was really good but really sad, even the stories about Mercy's days with the pack were a bit of a heartbreak and I expect much better from Bran on all counts. The position he put Charles in was unconscionable. What he did to Mercy's mother was unconscionable. Charles, Anna and the rest of the pack and even the Wildlings are a treat.

Very good but sad

Moments of terror, moments of grief, moments of joy. I love the Charles & Anna stories & all the eccentric characters in them.

Wonderful story

I have been a fan of Patty Briggs' werewolves since I first read Alpha and Omega in 2008. In this book Ms. Briggs takes that world, in conjunction with the Mercy Templeton world begun with Moon Called, and fills in the backstories. She also tells an exciting story all of its own.

With all the best intentions I intended to listen to Burn Bright over several days. I devoured it in a day and a half. I tried to take it slow but once the plot started to spool out I had to find out what happened. The full story of the peanut butter. Leah becomes a real person. More than one reason Bran sent Mercy away.

If you haven't read about these characters before, I would recommend at least reading the novella Alpha and Omega and Moon Called for context. But maybe that's just me.

I look forward to a new Patty Briggs book every Spring, and this one did not disappoint.

Building Character(s)

There might be some spoilers in this although I’ll try to make them unimportant ones.

This is a story where Anna and Charles and a few others wander around the woods checking in on aspen creeks most damaged wolves (wolves to damaged to actually be in the pack, they are personally bonded to Bran and very isolated). Each of the interactions is a complete tale, Briggs is fully introducing many new characters, how much they will play an active roll in further omega books remains to be seen. But the arc of burn bright is a main character pairing goes to visit a wild dangerous wolf meets them learns some of their story and leaves. Each of these short stories weaves together to form a greater whole with very little wasted time or space and there is plenty of main character development despite what feels like many new characters. There were so many places where it felt like “ok this could be the end of the book”, that when the book finally did end I felt almost betrayed like I thought it would go on forever...

Feels like interconnected short stories

This was another good book in the Alpha and Omega series. It had a good plot twist that I didn't see coming. Now I am ready for the next one..

Another good one...
