Publisher's summary

For a brief period after the world changed forever, the self-reliant community of Trout Run Valley managed to avoid conflict. They practiced subsistence, and found safety and security within their numbers. As the post-apocalyptic timeline moved forward, it began to spiral downward. Takers had made their presence known, and their malevolent intentions clear, transforming the once benign community into a violent battleground.

In What's Left of My World, a precarious surprise attack had left the community in a state of repair and reevaluation. Even now as the community rebuilds and continues their livelihood, a new, more sinister enemy is lying in wait, and it poses a threat more dangerous than anything the community has encountered before.

A fight is coming to Trout Run Valley, and every person living there knows it. Previous encounters with their new enemy had foretold the tale. Before the collapse, Lauren Russell had learned many skills necessary to fight and to survive. Her father had made certain that she'd been trained to be a warrior. In This We Will Defend, in order to preserve her way of life, along with the lives of everyone she knows and loves, she will have to become one.

Most anticipated audio book this year for me!

Would you listen to This We Will Defend: The Continuing Story of a Family's Survival again? Why?

I listened to Book 1 twice, "What's left of my world" and I picked up several things that I didn't hear the first time. Maybe it's the audio or that the author C.A. Rudolph is a real writer. He doesn't spoon feed the reader with what they should believe.
The same with This We will Defend except he did take it up a notch in his writing skills. Often book 1 gets all the good ideas. Book 2 and 3 are predictable. Not with this author.
I will also listen to it again as I wait for book 3. All I do know is it will not be the drama of man with special forces training takes on 140 bad guys. I've read That 100 times over.

What was one of the most memorable moments of This We Will Defend: The Continuing Story of a Family's Survival?

Some people are just bad. They might even hurt there own child. That's about enough, no spoiler alert. Laura learns this and she has taken a quantum leap in her training.

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

That's easy. I'm not Kevin Pearce. No one is. He reads the story without trying to over due any parts. He is of course the best.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I Savior it. 12 hours. That's 4 X 3 Hour hikes. Often I would back up a few minutes to really get who the characters where.

Any additional comments?

What's the easy book C A Rudolph could write?? Laura's dada from the quick decline to current day. He rides up to save the day. Hell I could write that one.
Rudolph wants to bring topics and situations we have not read or listened to many times before. Heck, his main character is a young female.trained yet does some things I wouldn't approve of like wandering off and not telling anyone. So she is not perfect. Even more interesting.
I have listened to or read 44 books in this genre and this series by C A Rudolph is tied with the the Rwales books I believe
I do not know the author, not being paid for writing this review. This is all honest from the brain and heart.

Love it when the evil people are defeated.

Would you consider the audio edition of This We Will Defend: The Continuing Story of a Family's Survival to be better than the print version?

I have not read the printed version.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lauren's character shows us the full range of emotions we would all feel if this happened. While well trained she still longs for the return to peace and prosperity.

What about Kevin Pierce’s performance did you like?

Kevin's performance of Damien conveyed the cruelty of the character clearly. I definitely felt his ominous character shine through.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I made time to listen and I will listen to this book a second time to soak in all the lessons.

Hail, hail, the gang's all here!

I first read this book about three years ago and was now surprised to find that I hadn’t left a review. I shall remedy that. Lauren is such a unique and complex character. Her actions and behavior are inconsistent, at times appearing contradictory, yet her moral compass and strong desire to learn keep her on the right path. The skills and abilities nurtured by her father since childhood have produced one dependable, conscientious, and capable female lead. Kate L. Mary would love her. 😊 The community at Trout Run Valley no longer enjoy the privacy of their remote valley. The rock slide across the highway that blocked the main entrance into the valley has been re-opened. And a sizable biker gang plan on looting…er, staying a while. We’ll follow along as the folks in Trout Run Valley get familiar with their new neighbors.

Great continuation of a good storyline

I thought book 1 of the series was a good read and couldn't wait for the follow up. Well, book 2 didn't disappoint! Enjoyed some of the twists brought out in this book and the storyline through both books is well thought out and entertaining. Looking forward to other works from C.A. Rudolph. I also hope the collaboration with Kevin Pierce is continued. His reading of this series as well as others is on point time and time again. Highly recommend this series to others.

I wish this had been better organized

I love the book and the directions it goes. This story jumped around to before, during and after the first book and kept throwing me off. People were introduced at such a pace I gave up on figuring it out. I'll listen to the next one for sure and will be giving the feed back to chad.

Hard to put down

Love this book and I normally don’t like book series because I need an immediate conclusion, but I’m so glad it isn’t over.

Another winner

Although I am still not a fan of the shifting timeline Mr. Rudolph uses to fill in the historical events, the rest of the story line makes up for the confusion those shifts bring. looking forward to book 3 starting time NOW!
