Publisher's summary

Faris is a Djinn with a secret and Marielle is the first master to give him hope. Will she be the one to break his curse? There is no telling. All he really knows is she's one wish away from breaking his heart.

When Marielle was little, she used to believe Grandpa about his wish-granting Djinn. But now that she's older, her beliefs have changed, and things like lousy ex-boyfriends and alcoholic fathers have become her reality.

Life isn't done shattering her truths, though, and when Grandpa dies and the Djinn he warned her never to trust shows up at her doorstep, the world becomes a dangerous, magical place she never knew existed. Reeling for her once-normal life, Marielle soon realizes there's no going back - not when she's become part of a mortal conflict between two spell-bound Djinn - Faris, her handsome slave, and Zet, his vengeance-hungry brother. They both want something from her. One, her love. The other one, her life.

Now she's afraid she will die in love.

Worth your time and credit

Any additional comments?

Wow…really enjoyed this book. I was really looking forward to it and wasn't disappointed at all. This is a creative, original, well written story with a great cast of characters. It pulled me in immediately and held my complete attention from start to finish. It's one of those stories that you will listen to repeatedly just because it's a really good story. It's definitley worth your time and credit.

Even though it's listed as Teen I would put it more as Young Adult/New Adult Marielle is 19, even though Feris is over 2500 yrs old he appears/states he and Marielle are about the same age in the story and there is a connection between them and their feelings/romance will only continue to grow.

You know if there is a Djinn involved you are going to need to be cautious. Feris is not the typical Jinn you would first envision in your mind. I never thought about it before but how does a Jinn become a Jinn in the first place? It's a question that has a interesting and "believable" explanation in this story.

If you could have 3 wishes, what would they be? There is a lot more going on than just granting 3 wishes. Marielle is thrown into a world of magic that is full mystery, intrigue and danger. There are rules and Feris needs to follow them. He is bound/cursed and can only divulge so much information deepening the mystery surrounding him. Marielle may be Faris's first real hope in a very long time, the one person who can free him from the curse.

Lisa Angelini did a fantastic job with the narration. She was the perfect narrator for this story. Pleasant voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Great character voices and accents. Both male and female. With just a slight change in tone her male voices sounded great. It really throws a story off when a narrator tries to do to deep of a male voice but hers are believable and transition between male and female smoothly. She brought the story and characters to life. Hopefully she will be narrating the rest of the series. Very enjoyable

Creative and Original!

If you had three wishes what would you do? Lots of possibilities there but don't forget the rules. Muriel is raised by her grandfather after her mother passes and father turns to alcohol. Grand dad owns a nursery and has spent her life time telling her stories about the djinn. She thinks its all a load of bull until grand dad passes then it all becomes very real.

I loved the authors voice. The story had a nice flow. A few parts weren't as easy to follow as others but the plot was unique and the characters vivid. It was a refreshing read like an ice cold drink on a hot summer day.

Lisa Angelini was really impressive. Her voice not only fit the character but made the story come alive.

This is a fast paced, character driven paranormal that is truly enjoyable.

Teen/YA Supernatural Fantasy with a Djinn!

I love this genre and the story was outstanding! The main character is strong and independent with tragedy striking her at the beginning of the book. I loved the mystery and intrigue. Everything going on kept me on my feet and guessing. This was a book I wanted to read straight through.

Narration was excellent and brought the story to life.

The characters were well developed and the story was even better than expected. I'm not familiar with Djinn's stories but this story was very good and kept me interested all the way to the conclusion.

I'm really looking forward to her next book.

Really enjoyed this!

Good book. Feels like a retelling of loved fairytales. I don't think it is that but just has that vibe. I have followed Ingrid on social media for a while and knew I was overdue on reading her work. I'm so glad I did. This will not be my last.

Great! - Recommended

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this book teens and up who like paranormal romance.
This was a fun read for me as I haven't read any Djinn themed stories before and the concept was totally new to me. I liked the characters and Marielle grew on me as she became less angry at the world around her and made selfless choices with her wishes.
I enjoyed all the teen drama at college. There was plenty of drama as Marielle faced intimidation from both real world people and others from the magical realm.
The story was very entertaining and held my attention throughout. The little touch of romance was lovely and I look forward to following on with the rest of the series.

Loved, loved, loved it

It took me awhile to get into this listen but once I did, I could not stop. This inventive story was mischievous and chivalrous with magic and spirits and it made for quite a nice afternoon. The djinn, Faris, was the embodiment of a knight in shining armor. Marielle, the djinn's "master", was a bit irksome but she was 19. She did make me want to scream too many times to count but all's well that ends well.

The narration was incredibly well-done. Angelini made an angry and sometimes petulant teen girl, a swoon-worthy djinn, a host of high school mean girls, and a family of Mexican immigrants, into believable entities.

There was a nice good versus evil battle at the end making for a great set up to book two. I'm looking forward to it.

A wonderful story!

I was immediately drawn into the story. Marielle was faced with the tragedy of the sudden death of her grandfather which left her alone. Then she was faced with the realization that all the stories that her grandfather told her of a Djinn were actually true. Now she has the ability to make 3 wishes...

This was the first story by Ingrid Seymour that I've listened to, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't wait to see where the storyline goes.

Lisa Angelini gave a great performance and I look forward to listening to more of her works.

main character is too hateful

I feel sorry for everyone in her life. She's mean, hateful and self centered. Two hours left in the story. I don't think it's worth finding out what happens. She doesn't deserve a happy ending!
