Publisher's summary

Great investors like Warren Buffett and Ray Dalio will tell you they're no geniuses; they're simply observant, open-minded, and industrious. Using these key traits, the world's most outstanding traders have employed a remarkable mix of strategies to build huge fortunes. Their careers are a how-to manual for anyone who wants to succeed at investing, no matter what the size of their stake. The lives of rich and famous investors are gripping tales of opportunities seized and squandered; of billions won and lost, and won again. And these life stories are also an eye-opening education in the workings of financial markets.

The Art of Investing: Lessons from History's Greatest Traders profiles over 30 men and women at the pinnacle of the investing field, including Warren Buffett, Ray Dalio, John Bogle, Peter Lynch, George Soros, T. Rowe Price, Jr., Linda Bradford Raschke, David Dreman, Michael Burry, and others involved in such ventures as value stocks, growth stocks, mutual funds, index funds, hedge funds, commodity futures, private equity, sovereign wealth, distressed assets, and more. Each lecture covers one of these approaches, together with traders who have made it pay handsomely - along with insights on how they did it.

An award-winning teacher and the portfolio manager for a $2.5-billion investment firm, Professor John Longo of Rutgers Business School tells these intriguing life stories with an insider's grasp of the financial details. Included in these 24 half-hour lectures are tips on the most common mistakes made by investors, scores of pithy sayings that synthesize the hard-won wisdom of veteran traders, and, in the final lecture, an investment checklist that lets you narrow down your own best approach to building personal wealth.

vast array of stock strategies, not much depth...

pretty repetitive on fundamentals, good mix of all the investment Kings out there, no real mention to who was the most successful in the long run...

Awesome but tmi

This is a very in depth book on specific investors and techniques, I would say it is almost too much for me to digest in one read

Great teacher

The author paints a very vivid story of what it took for some of the greatest traders and investors to achieve greatness. He also does a god job laying out the different frameworks of thought that have allowed people to achieve success in investing. Great for anyone trying to gain knowledge on the subject.

Deep dive

In the end I guess I liked it. it was not always easy as most of this was quiet advanced, but since my goal isn't to memorise it all, rather to gain some handholds on the topic of investing, it was fine for me.

slightly annoyed by the pronunciation of Fi-nance throughout the lectures, but I guess that's the accent.

as a whole i would say this is not a good place to start of you're dipping your toes in to investing, but otherwise quite a thorough and well structured class

Learning by Case Studies

Prof Longo explains principle of investing through stories and case studies that makes it appealing to learn. This series is very important for non-finance people before jumping into the ocean of securities markets. There is a video version of this program available on great courses website with pictorial illustrations.

History's Greatest Investors

This 24 lecture course / audio book covers all the greatest investors of our time.

This course will cover a variety of investment and trading strategies. I found it easy to follow even the more complected ones because it explains how individuals actually carried them out instead of giving you some hypothetical example.

Well of Value

Broad and depth coverage of nearly all facets of investing you may already be familiar, and certainly some like CVR, distressed, spin off, derivatives etc you may be unfamiliar with. I appreciate the focal point on innovators & how they ventured into their approach.
