Harold Frederick Shipman certainly projected all those qualities, but only so that he could hide the evil that lurked deep inside. Shipman abused his trust and used his position to kill - no less than 218 of his patients found their end at his hand, making him the United Kingdom's most prolific serial killer by a long shot.

This book tells Shipman's story, from his childhood under a domineering mother to his pathetic death in a prison cell. It will put you in the perspective of those who lived and worked in proximity to him, showing you the considerate but sometimes haughty doctor he presented himself as before taking you through the process of wrenching off that mask and uncovering the full extent of the evil festering within.

I really enjoyed this book. I think what is the most scary thing about this case is all of the oversights that had to occur in order to allow this man to continue killing. This isn’t your typical serial killer it was interesting to learn about Harold Shipman he was a brutal man killing over an Est 200 people. The narrator did a great job. I would highly recommend if you enjoy true crime.

Informative

Another book that I finished in one sitting - because of its length. Listened to it on my way back from work and it was a time well spent. The incidents were described very well and informative way. I hadn't known of this before and glad that I came across this book.

Shocking and revealing murder on such a scale

I'm 38 years old and had never heard of this fellow. Terrifying that this man was able to kill so many so easily with no eyebrows being raised and nothing coming to light until he grew so bold and confident that he forged a will. Shocking. very interesting and sad at the same time..

I've read all of the previous3 books in this series and loved them all , but this one tops them all .. A must read for all suspence fans~ another book I just couldn't put down till my eyes blurred and the clock was saying 3am time to sleep ~ kept me right on the edge till the last page ~ great job and love the storyline ~ will I tell much about the book absolutely not and ruin it for you just know you must get this one ..

I remember this story when it was happening. Of course, back then everyone didn't have computers and the internet was almost a dream so information was very limited. This book provided all of the details and facts about the horror that was this man and what he did. It was interesting and got my full attention. Yes, it was interesting information. The fact that it was real was fascinating.

It was interesting that I didn't recall ever hearing about this case in America.

Yes, I have listened to two other books narrator by Mr. Sprance and this one compares favorably with the others.

Overall this was a pretty interesting book. I haven't heard of Harold Shipman until now. What a vile human being. I can't believe he got away with all these killings for as long as he did! He used his position as a doctor and earned the trust and love of many patients and then ended up murdering them.
This book was very short and to the point, but definitely worth the read. Ernie Sprance was a good narrator.
