Publisher's summary

Just as World War II called an earlier generation to greatness, so the climate crisis is calling today's rising youth to action: to create a better future. In Unstoppable, Bill Nye crystallizes and expands the message for which he is best known and beloved. That message is that with a combination of optimism and scientific curiosity, all obstacles become opportunities, and the possibilities of our world become limitless.

With a scientist's thirst for knowledge and an engineer's vision of what can be, Bill Nye sees today's environmental issues not as insurmountable, depressing problems but as chances for our society to rise to the challenge and create a cleaner, healthier, smarter world. We need not accept that transportation consumes half our energy and that two-thirds of the energy you put into your car is immediately thrown away out the tailpipe. We need not accept that dangerous emissions are the price we must pay for a vibrant economy and a comfortable life. Above all, we need not accept that we will leave our children a planet that is dirty, overheated, and depleted of resources. As Bill shares his vision, he debunks some of the most persistent myths and misunderstandings about global warming. When you are done listening, you'll be enlightened and empowered. Chances are you'll be smiling, too, ready to join Bill and change the world.

Critic reviews

"As narrator, Nye uses his natural energy and enthusiasm to make this book compelling and thought-provoking.... He delivers his words masterfully and slows down a bit so we can more clearly understand the science behind his policy prescriptions." ( AudioFile)

Bill Nye strikes again!

This is one of the best, and most simply insightful books I have ever read (or listened to.)
First it's narrated by the science guy himself. This is the best part, he is able to draw you in with his excitement and wit.
Bill brings simple ideas to a very complex problem. He is a very intelligent and thoughtful man, and this comes through in this book.
Climate change skeptics and deniers should give this book a listen. It's fantastic food for thought for anyone.
I hope that this book becomes educational curriculum for students of all ages.

Just as I expected, brilliant!

This book went very into depth of the many struggles that face the human race. I definitely recommend it for anyone curious about the challenges we have to conquer to thrive. I suggest this book for anyone who is interested in science at least a little bit. Rockets, climate change, water salinity, bucky balls, they are all here!

Worth a listen!

This book builds you up and beats you down with the pros and cons of alternative energies. I feel like the book was very honest though and helps build prospective toward climate change. Nye also narrates well as you can here his passion for the subject along with his geeky puns! Topics are reasonably well explained to a layman without grossly over simplifying it the concepts.

Essential Reading

Bill Nye is a scientist with a positive outlook on the dire subject of climate change. He provides background information about the topic and potential solutions the definitely seem plausible. His optimism and non-judgemental approach is especially refreshing and appreciated. I truly believe he is the voice that could change the world.

Great analysis of our prospective future.

Listening felt a lot like hearing stories of the Holocaust. I believe what I hear and it fills me with dismay. So I can't bear it. I didn't finish because of it. Also, I feel as though Bill is only preaching to the choir. Those who are deny our climate change aren't likely to listen or learn. #45's rise to power has taught us that much.

Lots of things to ponder

I like a lot of the ideas that Bill presented. One thing I noted though was that he sees the present course of things as an ongoing thing, that there won't be a massive change we cannot foresee. Years ago I read an article written in the 1850's that predicted that in less than century every major city on earth would have to be abandoned due to a major pollution problem. What was going to cause this catastrophe? Horse excrement. of course trains, trolleys, cars and trucks eliminated this problem long before we had to abandon all our cities.

Remember too that CO2 levels were raised greatly due to earlier fixes for air pollution that led to catylitic converters that changed carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide. At the time those pushing the requirements thought they were doing something entirely benign.

We need to be aware that the law of unintended consequences is always in play which means that while it is important to fix problems those solutions need to be carefully thought out so we don't just trade one problem for another.

Bill Nye is a zealot and a good one. We need more people like him but we also need to closely examine all proposed solutions so that we don't just trade one set of problems for another.
