Publisher's summary

Two years in Afghanistan; four years working for MI5, the British security service; and the death of both of his parents from cancer. At the age of 34, Callum thought he'd experienced the worst that life could throw at him. That was until his boss ordered him to open a buried file on his desk and to take it seriously. His new assignment: to detain and question a pregnant woman and her ailing husband - and, if need be, to stop them from returning to medieval Wales.

Until today Callum believed in his job and always followed orders. Until today he thought time travel wasn't real....

Love this Series!

I love the After Cilmeri series! The cast of characters keep growing with every new book, and I love them all. Sarah Woodbury has a wonderful way of writing that weaves the new characters in with the old, as well as weaving factual history with the fictional. I'm always anxious for the next book in the series!!

My favorite time travel series continues!!

This is my favorite time travel series because it follows actual history and people from that time. I enjoy how Ms. Woodbury develops wonderfully interesting characters and adds them to that particular time period. The story is full of intrigue and relationships but doesn't rely on detailed sex scenes and constant cursing instead of a plot.

NEW CHARACTERS AND NEW TWISTS

What did you love best about Exiles in Time?

Exiles expands the scope of the series both geographically and in character development. We are introduced to unwilling time travelers and how they adapted to their unexpected circumstances in very different ways. Although old friends are substantially not present, their influence is present.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Exiles in Time?

When Cassie volunteers to be a decoy to mislead their pursuers. Her strength and self confidence in the wild demonstrates how she evolved and adapted from the person she described herself as before being brought to Wales.

Which character – as performed by Laurel Schroeder – was your favorite?

James Stewart. He slowly evolves from nobleman to soldier to friend, all the while keeping his dignity. It is nicely portrayed in the book and Ms. Schroeder's performance does that evolution credit.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The exchanges between Cassie and Samuel toward the end. Samuel has been a side story for so long that it is interesting to see him interact with Cassie in particular given the similarity of their circumstances.

Good Story, Poor Narrator

Narrator sounded stilted. Her accents were good. She did not help an interesting story. I like this authors' works. I' d rather read it instead of listening to this narrator again.

Gets Better And Better

What made the experience of listening to Exiles in Time the most enjoyable?

It just simply was enjoyable. I can't think of a specific thing other than "the combination of the story and the narrator" being just spot on.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved that the story line continues the same arc but we get introduced to a new set of characters, and get to see them on their own not just as side-players to the earlier books' main characters. Callum and Cassie, and even Marty, stand on their own. Yes, they have a relationship of some sort to Meg and David etc. but we only have mention of Meg, David etc in this book (after the very beginning), and it's all Callum's story as he represents David in Scotland. It really gives Callum a place in the continuum which is great. Cassie is a fantastic character, and I think the ambivalence she feels is so well conveyed. It could so easily have been "not so well conveyed". Haha. This is why I write reviews and not books.

What does Laurel Schroeder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Everything audio/audible. I'm not a reader who reads each word aloud in my head, so listening to the audiobook is like "hearing it for the first time". Even though I know the story because I read it, the audio experience is vastly enriching for me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, Yes, Yes!

Any additional comments?

I'm almost ashamed to say the Author provided me a complimentary copy of the audiobook, but the frugal side of me is quite the opposite. Delighted in fact. And, there were no strings or requirements to the receipt of the gifted copy. I think she gets a kick out of how much I like these books. I really, really do. I recommend anyone who is into time travel, Wales, medieval alternate history mishmashed with modern "what if" to read and listen to these books. This series is one of my top 3 or even top 2 favorites. Outlander kind of edges this one out, but .... that's .... yeah that's that. Aside from that one, this is my favorite.

One of my favorite of the series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended the After Cilmeri series to all my friends. Even though I've read each book in the series several times, I've been looking forward to the experience of listening to them. The audio version makes the characters really come alive for me. I can't wait for the next one!

What other book might you compare Exiles in Time to and why?

These aren't your typical time travel stories. The author has created more of an alternate universe that gives you a feel for how it would be to be a modern person transported back to medieval times. The characters bring modern ideas and ways of thinking into their daily lives and are also changed by the times in which they now live.

What about Laurel Schroeder’s performance did you like?

I love hearing the Welsh words pronounced because it's almost impossible to figure out how to say them - even though the author provides a pronunciation guide in the beginning of each book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't pick out just one particular moment, but what I liked best about the book in general was the growing relationship between Collum and Cassie. They're both from the present and had no say in being sent back to medieval Wales. Each has been struggling to make the best of it. Fortunately, their prior experiences allow them to adapt more quickly than some. Collum was in special forces so he's familiar with fighting and Cassie, part Native American, was taught by her grandfather important outdoor activities that helped her to survive, such as using bow and arrows and hunting.

Any additional comments?

Be sure to read the After Cilmeri books in order. I've grown so attached to Llywelyn that it's hard for me to read non-fiction history books in which he is murdered. It's just too sad. I prefer this alternate universe in which he's saved and has a happier life.
