Publisher's summary

She finds the ultimate love of her life in another time...and as a man.

Jessie Wharton is a teacher in the twenty-first century. Or at least she was. Taking her history class to visit the ruins of a historic fort in West Texas, the scorching heat turns her world upside down. Suddenly nothing is the way it is supposed to be. She is no longer Jessie Wharton. She is Jesse Webster. She isn't a teacher. She is a private in the US army, stationed at Fort Callaghan, a completely functional outpost. And it is 1867. Worse, she isn't a she any longer. She is a man. A man who is finding himself falling in love with a fellow soldier named Martin Parrish. Together they discover love in the scorching Texas heat, in a time when the merest breath of homosexuality is enough to have the accused whipped to death...if the native Indians don't scalp them first.

Definitely different 😉

Well definitely not what I was expecting. We start off with a heterosexual woman, who ends up in the past as a man and finds herself in a gay relationship where it's punishable by death, only to be flung by to the future and open to the possibility of a lesbian relationship.
It's still a lovely story about that love is love no matter the packaging or even time but I kinda like my stories wrapped up with a bow and depending on how you interpret the open ending, it can go either way. That's why only 4 stars. I need a cherry on top please.

DNF

I’m sorry but I could not finish this story, while the plot seems compelling, I can’t get past the narration. The story is about characters in the 20s/30s and he sounds at best in his 60s.

I think this would be a great book to read, but I just couldn’t listen to it.

I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Meh...

I love the concept...I think a little more thought and effort would have made this a great story. I wouldn't call it time travel or reincarnation...but I can dig the concept.
One thing that would have made this more enjoyable to me would be a different narrator. I know that narrating isn't the easiest job...but I am not a fan of Guy Veryzer. He is very monotone to me. And the cadence of his voice. I can only handle his narrations if I have other things to do.

Could not finish audible

The storyline was good and narrator did an awesome job but what turn me off was I felt I reading about a trans which I do not believe in. Now if somewhere in the beginning after Jessie the female learn she is a man in her trip back in time I would have finished it but it did not happen and the story continues with women identity.

Very Captivating!

I was intrigued by the Blurb. This is definitely not your usual read. The world building is fabulous and coping with having an MC losing his identity and being transported into a time warp was definitely well handled.
Guy Veryzer did a commendable job on the narration.

Jessie and Martin

It took me a minute to get use to the narrator but once I did, I was swept away into this wonderful time travel romance.

Jessie and Martin’s story is one of love, passion and even heartache, but not all is lost. The ending is a wonderful surprise and I found myself a little teary eyed.

Though Jessie and Martin are two men, Jessie is always referred as “she” when it’s her P.O.V. She’s a woman trapped in a man’s body.

This is the first book I’ve listened to like this, and I really enjoyed it.

I thought Guy Veryzer did a great job with the emotional and dramatic parts, especially at the end. I did have to up the reading speed a bit, but overall Guy Veryzer did a good job.

Surprisingly good!

4 Blue Roses
3.5 Blue Flames

This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
O my goodness! was I surprised by this short story. It was such a treat. I am not a fan of this narrator, but as I pushed ahead and told myself to calm down, not everyone can be a favourite. The plot was so well done, my hanging on became less of a chore and more a satisfying endeavour. There are two reasons I am not a fan of this narrator. One; his extremely slow reading, but I remedied that by listening at 1.5 speed. Two; he sounds older to me. The characters appear to be late 20 early 30's, but their voices sounds 50 may 60 years old.

I love time travel romances. This was done quite well. I definitely recommend this audiobook for LGBT Fiction lovers. It is on the short side, but is worth a credit. I was pulled into the world of 200 years past and found myself emotionally agitated and almost murderous with frustration with the homophobic bastards flogging Martin to death.

The HEA was also a nice surprise, I honestly did not see it coming until the end.
Happy Listening.

An imaginative concept

The narration by Guy Veryzer kept me engaged in a story that was imaginative, with good pacing and enough personality to distinguish the characters. Overall, though, the story could not overcome the glaring chasm midway through when the two central characters declared their love to one another after having had barely any interactions over two days. If they had gone through traumatic events together, or anything more substantive beyond naked lust, the story might have been saved. Alas, it was not to be, and after the "I love you's" were thrown about, it was hard not to categorize this as just another hastily thrown together forced romance.
