Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder . . .

Discover this funny, heart-warming tale of self-discovery from Jodi Taylor, author of the internationally bestselling Chronicles of St Mary's series.

Nobody ever notices little Jenny Dove. Even her family call her the Nothing Girl. Isolated and alone, Jenny is about to end it all when she is rescued by Thomas, a giant golden horse only she can see.

Under his mischievous guidance, Jenny begins to think she might one day become someone. And when the charmingly chaotic Russell Checkland erupts into her life - together with his tumbledown farmhouse - and proposes a marriage that will save them both, Jenny is ready to take a chance.

Sadly, her new life at Frogmorton Farm doesn't exactly sweep Jenny off her feet. There are leaking roofs, unpaid bills and so many buckets. And then, as a series of apparent 'accidents' unfolds, Jenny begins to worry this might not be a fairy-tale ending after all...

Where does The Nothing Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Nothing Girl ranks as one of the best books I've listened to in a long time and I've listened to some very good ones lately, including others by this author. She is a top-notch storyteller.

What did you like best about this story?

Not only has the story several twists, some predictable but very rarely, gentle, tongue-in-cheek humour accompanies a rather serious plot. Just when you think you've got it figured out, you don't and something happens to make you wonder, 'What the hell?' so you plow on, unable to put the book down - or the earphones in this case.

Have you listened to any of Lucy Price-Lewis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I've listened to one of Lucy Price-Lewis's performances and I've got to say I am impressed. She has the magic touch; making you forget the narrator entirely and immerse yourself in the story. I'll be looking for more books narrated by Lucy.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Several moments in the book had me on the edge of my seat wondering what happens next and all I'll say to avoid a spoiler is that my favourite moment(s) involve a personage named Marilyn.

Any additional comments?

I have read most of Jodi Taylor's books, waiting avidly for each next edition to come out. She has become my new favourite author. The Nothing Girl rates at the top of this list and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a really good read. Well done!

Not What You'd Expect But Better

I have read Jodi Taylor's Chronicles of St. Mary and loved them, so I picked up this book as well. Honestly, I think it is even better than the St. Mary books. The narrator is wonderful, the story is fun, the characters are great. Don't hesitate to spend a credit on this one!!

Great Book

I've been working my way through the St. Mary's Chronicles and took a detour to listen to this stand alone novel by the same Jodi Taylor. I was glad I did. It's funny, quirky and warm. At the very end, the tying up of the romance and mystery strained my credibility just a bit, but by then I was all in anyway, so I just went along with it. Russell was my favorite character, except for Thomas, the magic horse, of course!

Warm and Funny

Jodi Taylor’s St Mary’s series has become one of my favorites. Jodi Taylor’s character development, well thought out plot lines, combined with humor and snarky sarcasm are exactly to my taste. I purchased this book with a bit of trepidation. It does not have the level excitement and backdrop of time travel as in the St Mary’s series but it does contain the wit and humor expected from Jodi’s writing. The story is about an incredibly shy and isolated introspective young woman who is struggling to grow. There is a bit of fantasy mixed in with some mystery. Worth the credit.

Any additional comments?

First off, kudos to the narrator! This book had a lot of elements, including a magical horse, and the narrator made the listen very engaging. Jenny, the main female character, had a stutter and Lucy Price-Lewis delivered a great performance without making Jenny sound like a caricature.

The story was Cinderella-esque and I was okay with that. Jenny lost her parents, were raised by her aunt and uncle who made her feel, well, like nothing. They had a child, Jenny's cousin, that the two doted on and gave little attention to Jenny, other than to make sure she felt unworthy.

There is a mystery with this listen but it's mostly a love story. Jenny finds her voice and her sense of self in the midst of all the crazy and I literally fist-pumped when this was over.

I didn't know what to expect with this listen but I had enjoyed other Jodi Taylor books and I thought, why not. I'm so glad I did!

A totally unexpected joy!
