Don't give up

Enjoyed the first book in this sequel. This PI is tough and has to be because of circumstances that were not her fault. There were a couple others who were trying to change their lives too.

Not Bad

Though this book was egregiously slow in spots I really liked it. As for the the characters, they are really great; particularly the protagonist. Cali Corwin is tough, smart, ballsy and has more testosterone that most men. I also liked her mom, Sergei and the tech geek Mickey. I plan the next book in the series really soon.

great audiobook, pretty good story

Story isn't what makes this a great audiobook, it's the characters and San Francisco's seedier nightlife setting. A savvy, sexy first-person female PI who gambles, loves cars , has daddy issues and keeps a shotgun in the trunk of her car? I want to meet this babe! Terrific, throaty narration, very well recorded, lots of fun characters from seedy to lowlife to a self-styled prince charming Aryan Brotherhood drug lord creep. Needs to be longer, which might also fix the unfinished feel of the story complained about in some reviews. Overall, a solid B/B+ effort. I'd probably spend a credit on another if there were more in the series, just to hear Cal pillow talk about her car some more, LOL.

New Favorite P.I. Series

What a fun character! I like serious mysteries, and the best ones always have a terrific and unusual main character. Somebody we haven't seen before. Enter Cal Corwin. Ex San Francisco cop, smart, tough, even a little gritty, ethnical but not goody-two-shoes, a quarter Japanese, a quarter Mexican, and female. A true California character! I read some reviews on Amazon that said they didn't like that some things in the story were unresolved. Duh, it's called Loose Ends, so I think we can expect that. All the "loose ends" felt like things that were going to carryover and maybe grow in the next book or the book after that. You really get the feeling that this is the start of a series, a whole world, and I had a great time with it. Also, I've enjoyed this narrator on some other books and I think this might be my favorite. It felt like she IS Cal Corwin, with some other fun characters for good measure. (Micky her sidekick tech genius, Jay her ex-partner, Haight-Ashbury hippy mom and others, without giving away any spoilers). I hope the series grows quickly and that future books are maybe a little longer. I want more!

Ok not great

Wasn't as exciting as a detective novel should be. Would not pay full price for this

Good story;bad narrator.

I liked the story. It always kept you wondering. However, the narrator was so monotone it was hard to finish the book.

Flat Ending

The ending didn't wrap up enough of the storylines for me. Too many plot lines that didn't really advance the story to the conclusion.

Left me hanging....

The storyline was not the best I've read, but was decent, even good. Until I was left hanging at the end. I enjoyed following Cal through the case, although some of her details she included weren't fully explained...it was as if the reader/listener was supposed to be already aquainted with her background. That quirk in the story I got over, but not as easy to get over being dropped at the end of the story when the book was suddenly over. I even went back over it to see if I had missed something. Maybe Audible abridged it without knowing it 😉
