“These three stories … held exactly what I was hoping to find here: the style that emanates pulp fiction, the tumultuous hero and action-filled plots, that, when read, can’t help but leave the reader with a nostalgia-filled trip to a time when fiction was fun, fast, and free of restraint.”—Luke Reviews

EARTH IS DYING. ITS LAST HOPE IS RETURNING WITH A FLEET NO ONE EXPECTED.

Earth is nearly dead—its air ruined, its cities broken and its people scattered across distant worlds. Lars the Ranger once crossed the galaxy seeking the resources to save humanity’s home. Now he has returned to a planet running out of time.

But the mission appears to have failed. As mysterious starships descend on the third planet from the sun, Earth’s remaining leaders face the possibility that the final chapter has already begun.

A dying world.

A returning commander.

And a fleet whose arrival may mean destruction—or something no one on Earth understands yet.

Urgent, action-filled and built around planetary stakes, When Shadows Fall is classic science fiction adventure about survival, return and the possibility that Earth’s darkest hour may hide one last reversal.

Three complete science fiction adventures in one volume. Also included are:

Tough Old Man—A confident young Frontier Patrol officer is assigned to learn from veteran constable Keno Martin, whose legendary toughness hides a secret that changes how his partner sees him.

Battling Bolto—An interstellar con man runs an audacious scam among the stars—while the biggest trick in the scheme may be the one he never sees coming.

Bringing his gift for storytelling to science fiction, L. Ron Hubbard crafted fast-moving tales where big speculative ideas become human problems—filled with adventure, ingenuity, humor, danger and unexpected reversals.
