Story
The Aztecs believed offerings of human blood and human lives were necessary to the continued running of the universe. Indeed, in Aztec myths, the gods themselves make sacrifices of their own blood and even of their entire bodies in order to create a universe humans can live in and, in one story, to create humans themselves. To the ancient Aztecs, these practices seemed fitting, necessary, and honorable, helping to connect the world of humans to the divine world of the gods, a universe that in Aztec myth took shape in cycles of creation, destruction, and rebirth.

Centuries ago, Spanish conquistadors searching for gold and new lands encountered a group of independent city-states in Mesoamerica. Sophisticated beyond the Spaniards' wildest imaginings, these people were the Aztecs, the Maya, and related cultures that shared common traditions of religion, government, the arts, engineering, and trade. In many ways more advanced than European nations, these societies equaled the world's greatest civilizations of their time.

Story
Rene "Boxer" Enriquez grew up on the violent streets of East L.A., where gang fights, robberies, and drive-by shootings were fueled by rage, drugs, and alcohol. When he finally landed in prison - at the age of 19 - Enriquez found an organization that brought him the respect he always wanted: the near-mythic and widely feared Mexican Mafia, La Eme. What the organization saw in Enriquez was a young man who knew no fear and would kill anyone - justifiably or not - in the blink of an eye.

Explore the Captivating History and Mythology of the Aztec!
Nothing remains of the ancient Mesoamerican civilization who called themselves the Mexica, better known to us as the Aztecs. Nothing except for their remarkable story. In this audiobook, we discuss their enigmatic origins and how the Aztecs rose from nomadic tribes to the dominant power in Mesoamerica at an astounding speed. You’ll wander the streets of their great capital city of Tenochtitlán, known as “the Venice of the New World” among the Spanish Conquistadors, who spread the term all over Europe. You’ll discover the full extent of the city’s splendour, visiting its many market stalls, smelling fresh chocolate and vanilla pods. You’ll indulge in a taste of ripe, hand-picked avocados and freshly baked corn tortillas, as you decipher Náhuatl, the language spoken by the 50,000 merchants who visited Tenochtitlán every day.

A terrible listen for any Spanish speakers
I got this book with high hopes after just having listened to a couple of other audible productions, This was sorely disappointing, since the beginning the reader sounds like a generic British accented computer generated reader. The pronunciation of the god's names is terrible and it changes constantly, sometimes within the same sentence. I would suggest spending a little bit more in production values and getting a person familiar with Nahuatl phonetics and do a better job at this. This is so bad that it makes it nearly impossible to follow without laughing involuntarily, or even understanding what or who the book is talking about. I see this as a great disrespect for the source material and the culture that you are writing about.

The Aztecs were cruel
They worshipped certain gods and goddesses with human sacrifices. It's crazy to think that people thought this way.
