Pointlessly cruel story dragging on for ages with a rather weak "eye for eye" ending

Our family loves David Walliams, kids have read many of hos books and he's one of our favorite car audiobook authors. This book was a disappointing and rather painful experience. It starts as funny and serious as most DW's books but in the 2nd half the terrible aunt tortures the main girl character pointlessly for dozens of chapters again and again while it is clear she's the source of all evil. All this unpleasant tedious listening is unfortunately not rewarded at the end with a strong finish and catharsis. The end is weak, there's no real lesson learned. I would still go for DW but I strongly recommend choosing another book.

Too similar to Matilda

As a huge fan of Roald Dahl, this did not measure up, I'm afraid. It's good, just not as brilliant as I could have wished.
