Publisher's summary

A few days have passed since Jason's confrontation with Alfred and he's debating whether to reenter Awaken Online. Alfred has made a proposition that Jason isn't certain he should accept.

After the battle with Alexion, Jason has also been appointed the Regent of the Twilight Throne. He must assume the mantle of ruling an undead city - with everything that entails. His first task is to investigate the dark keep that looms over the city's marketplace. This act will lead to a chain of events that might ensure his city's survival or create new enemies.

Meanwhile, Alex re-enters the game listless and angry after his loss against Jason. With his reputation in the gutter and no prospects, he will face a choice regarding how he intends to blaze his path through the game.

Being a Necromantic Villan LitRPG

I finished the book, and my first thought was that I want more, but also to that nagging curiosity to know what happens next. Awaken Online: Precipice meets the expectations that were set forth in the first book. Overall, I felt satisfied with the listening experience, some of the world building aspects of the book are very well done, while I get conflicted feeling with what some of the characters on what they are doing, I feel like they are the good kind of conflicted feelings meaning that I am invested in the story.

(Overall 4.7/5)

The Performance by David Stifel was basically the same experience as the first book, that is it was a good job. Conversations between characters were easy to keep track of, and I heard the story, not the voice. Production is well done, there were no issues that I caught.

(Performance 4.7/5)

So the story was gripping and addictive, it does slowdown in places but this is 18-hour audiobook, so those are the good places to take a breather. The book does end on something of a cliff-hanger, but that is mostly the author being evil and setting up the next book in the series (which is coming soon I hope 😝). I have conflicting feeling on most of the characters in this story, but all of them feel like they have depth and a background behind them. From the descriptions of the world of Awaken Online it feels like we only have a small glimpse of the entire world, and I worry that it only seems like two groups are effecting the game world it would be nice if this wasn’t the case – (even if only through the background in the news casts).

The story has a few threads going on at the same time: Jason and Company, the AI Alfred, some real-world perspectives, and an Alex subplot. All of these perspectives are interesting, but I sometimes feel like the story is being told with too many povs by the author, I appreciate the perspectives, but it is jarring sometimes to get what amounts to a 1 page pov from a character that will never be mentioned again. At the end of the day, the story was well paced, with lots of villainy!

Story (4.5/5)

Very Entertaining

I really enjoyed the second book of this series. The author has taken the time to build relatable characters so that the reader has a vested interest in the outcome of the story. The AI in the story is well personified and the growth and development of the AI is an interesting, if recurring, concept. The narration was well performed and characters are easily identified due to the narrator's competent ability to give unique voices to each primary character. I enjoyed that the story does not revolve around a person being "stuck" in the game and that the struggles experienced by each character go beyond leveling and impossible odds. Everyone has shown personal growth and moral questioning or just the evolution in who and what they want to be inside and outside of the game. The ending presented a good "cliffhanger" that was foreshadowed well throughout the storyline. Game mechanics and stats were well presented and did not take away from the story. Overall it was an enjoyable story that I binged through.

amazing story. cringey narrator.

loved the first and second book. I listened to this series right after Ready Player One and can honestly say I enjoyed it just as much. the only issue I had was the narrator. He ruined the tension regularly and the inflection he gave to much of the dialogue was way off and gave the wrong impression of the story in my opinion. that said, it is easily overlooked if you have an imagination and the story definately compensates for the poor performance.

highly reccomend!

Very well written

I Love the characters. All of their stories fit nicely in the book. Although I don't like Claire, she is necessary for some tension

Wow Alfred

Third book please. I’ll check the side quest later. I must know what comes next. And I officially hate anyone with the name Alex. 😈😈😈
