Repetitive Dull and Disappointing

Any additional comments?

After reading the Introduction i was excited to get listening to this book. I enjoy books with Alien/Human romance with some Thriller/mystery thrown in. This book could of been so much better than it was. It is very repetitive in places and i found myself drifting away from the story, a lot. I skipped a few chapters and had no trouble catching up either (Not a good sign). There also could of been more romance between Mia and Kyrin. I found the build up to the sex plain boring. There is not much sex in this story either. Justine Eyre's narration was annoying. Her voice is not suited to the story. With such a hard cold hearted Main lady her voice really needed to be more firm. I found it quite sickly sweet. I don't think i will bother with anymore books in this series. All in all this book was disappointing.

REVIEW:
I had to think about this review for a little while. I really love Gena Showalter’s book. I absolutely love Justine Eyre as a narrator. And I really did enjoy this story. But when I got to the end I kept looking at my phone (because that is where my audio books plays) and thought “That’s it??”. Yep sure enough that was the end of the book. To me it felt just a little rushed but yet it was wrapped up nicely. My next thought was there will be another books with Kyrin & Mia, but as far as I can see they don’t get another book.

So I am on the fence. I like the book. Loved Justine reading to me. Loved Kyrin. Liked Mia. Loved the side characters. But was left wanting more. I wanted more Kyrin time. I wanted to see more Kyrin & Mia. I guess I hope that as the series goes on we will get glimpses of Kyrin and Mia. Because there are a lot of questions that need to be answered and the future is not certain.

If you love Gena Showalter I think that you will like this book. If you love to listen to Justine Eyre this is right up your alley. Over all I am happy with my purchase and read.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE BEST & WORST KIND

Now hold on because I'm about to gush here......

Right from chapter 1, as the many gifted voices of Justine Eyre began narrating this compelling paranormal murder/mystery I was hooked and, as the imaginative wonderful multi-layered futuristic world unfolds revealing it's treasures of great characters and an awesome plot that had many twists, turns and shocks, I knew this was going to be another brilliant new series created by a truly talented author. It's an unsociable listen as that's what it made me - where I was growling at people daring to talk to me, letting the ansaphone pick up calls and being in a bad mood because I fought sleep and won in order to finish it.

Mia is a kick-ass huntress character as she thanklessly fights crime within the Alien community, along with her partner Dallas but when she meets charismatic, powerful, handsome and rich Kyrin (ok he's an Alien but so what - right?) sparks fly and awareness sizzles between them which results in an explosive hot sensual Alien, couldn't get any closer, encounter (phew). Kyrin is besotted with her but, unfortunately, there's an Alien villain to catch who's doing some pretty evil things, so their romance just has to wait as this needs an 'all hands on deck' approach.

Worth a credit? Well it certainly would have been and I can't believe it's such an inexpensive listen so I saved my credit for a more expensive, but maybe not such a enjoyable or deserving, listen. As this was written in 2005, and there's been at least 6 books written so far, I hope it won't be too long before Audible delights us with the whole series.

Good start!

Impressive...Really good start to an Alien/Romance... Don't expect much smexing... very well done angst...but the story was so well written, the mystery, the suspense and all the crazy alien killing action... I found that I didn't miss the smex all that much... What a shocker in the end too! Wow Wow...

Narration was great..

Good credit or sale...I wouldn't buy unless the price goes under 10 bucks!

BORING AND TOTALLY HORID!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book was impossible for me to get into. The characters were boring and just did not capture my attention in the least.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'll try another series - this one did not have a good start at all.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Justine Eyre?

Jusstine Eyre didn't do a bad job - just the book sucked.

What character would you cut from Awaken Me Darkly?

All of them.

Must love Paranormal

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

actually, if you are a paranormal or G. Showalter fan, then this was good. This had a good outline, but it read as if it was just the outline. Author was setting fans up for a series and you could tell when she did it to a character she wanted to expand.

What was most disappointing about Gena Showalter’s story?

Our hero was not as strong as I like them. If you like a tender hero, this is it. Our heroine is strong, but not like the Lt. Dallas of J.D. Rob, and she could have been but was not.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I like readers' male voice only. I purchased this book based on the reader, as I have about 4 now. Her female voice is just ok for me, so future buys of this reader will have to be based on the story.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I am not a Paranormal lover, but author has a big following, so I thought I would combine author and reader for a buy. This author is just not for me.

Love the powerful, handsome hero

A very well written story, likable characters and a super juicy hero. His physical strength and softness toward the heroin will steal your heart but his handsome look just adds a delicious topping to this spicy story. I absolutely adored this book.

Dawn's Review of Awaken Me Darkly

I loved the creative way that you were brought into this story. The characters were well written and given enough description that you could see them in your minds eye. I loved the interplay with the characters.

Mia's team is more like family to her and they treat each other as such. They are a group of special officers that protect humans from the aliens that have moved to Earth. Dallas, her partner, is mortally wounded while trying to protect Mia. The only one who can help him is Kyrin, an alien.

Kyrin is a hunter in his own right. His sister has been wrongly accused and he is trying to free her while helping Mia find the real killer. He knows who it is and tries to make a deal with Mia. He will help Dallas if she frees his sister.

Mia and Kyrin's relationship is explosive (putting it mildly). It's definitely worth the read or listen. :)

the narrator is terrible

I've read the story before having to listen to this woman read was Dreadful I don't know why anyone would willingly make a character sound so nasally

Showalter forever!

Huge fan, read the thus series before, have them proudly in my library, and loved hearing it again in audible. I thought the narrative was perfect for Mia. 5 stars across the board as always!
