Publisher's summary

Jack and Lexi never had a typical relationship. After two years without speaking, she receives a phone call that changes everything. He unexpectedly asks her to convince the new girl, Bekah, that he's ready to commit. Jack is calling now after everything they had been through because there is another woman. She can't believe it. Follow Lexi in this heart wrenching drama as she relives her past relationship, or lack thereof, with Jack, and not just in her own mind, but to his fiancée-to-be. Throw in Bekah's hot brother who always seems to be in the right place at the right time, a past with more secrets to unravel than you can even imagine, and you get a recipe for disaster. Find out what happens to Lexi as she travels to Atlanta to get the closure she so desperately desires from Jack, and how the bumps of life seem to keep getting in the way.

Self Love is important

If I learned anything from this book, it is to love and value myself enough not to lower my standards. Although this is a romance novel, I hated the couple that was Jack and Lexi. They met each other in college and had an instant connection. Their chemistry was strong and I could tell they really liked each other. However, Jack revealed how selfish he was a from the start. He's careless, irresponsible, and self centered. I don't think I ever hated a hero so much. While I was frustrated with Lexi, I understood that Jack was her first true love. She focused so much on how much she loved him that she couldn't see how much damage he was doing. The story jumps from past to present. Lexi and Jack continue their off and on relationship; sometimes while involved with other people.
Although they don't deserve better partners, this relationship was one that should have ended a long time ago. This whole story was a emotional roller coaster full of heartbreak and mind games. I felt more sympathy for the secondary characters than the main characters. However, I had to know how it ended. I was surprised, caught off guard, sad, smug and then proud. I hated the characters but I enjoyed the drama.

There could have been a better narrator. But he wasn't the worst.

Juewelz @SMIBookClub review of Avoiding Commitment

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Maybe it was going back in time every other chapter. I am not 100% sure excatly what it was but I could not get into this story or care for the characters.

Whew!!!

Talk about an emotional whirlwind. This one had my emotions in an uproar. At times I just wanted to knock Lexi in the head with a bat. Lexi has a relationship with Jack for years that is not a healthy one. We are taken from the present to the past and back to the present. Jack has never chosen Lexi but he won’t let her go. Lexi destroys every relationship she has because she can’t let go of Jack. Jack wants Lexi to meet the woman he intends to propose to and convince her that he is ready to commit. Of course Jack starts his same old pattern again and he wants both women. Will Lexi finally let him go or will Jack finally be the man he should be and give Lexi the love she deserves?

Is this one worth a credit? Yes, because I love not knowing which way the story is going. There’s allot of things going on and the story isn’t predictable. I will say I do hope there is another book.

WOW!

Would you listen to Avoiding Commitment again? Why?

yes, it brought me back to when I was a teenager and first feel in love.

What did you like best about this story?

The true honesty of the situation she kept finding herself in.

Any additional comments?

The was a truly emotional makes you think kind of book. Lets you understand better what love at first sight can make you think, feel, and even sometimes do. Deals with feelings I am sure a lot of ppl have or will face in their lifetime.

Childish writing

I wanted to quit this book so many times just because of the overall stupidity of the character. The entire book is filled with fluff and over-descriptives at every turn. This should have been a 5hr read instead and still not even worth it. It had potential but was a waste of time.

Good narration

I think this book is more of a young adult target. Overall it's good. Going back and forth from present to past gets me a bit lost. I have known women in their younger years who carried the torch for a man and I didn't understand it then or now. It was kind of frustrating to read about Jack and Lexi's relationship. The audio reader was good.

3 stars

This story is complex in terms of dealing with relationships and also emotionally. I find I have to be in the right mind to read/listen to this series. I wish the narrator was different.

Women are so stupied

Any additional comments?

This book could be true. Some men really think that they can treat women like this. A smile a kiss a little love making and women will be in wrapped around there little finger.

Reality Check And Loving It

What did you love best about Avoiding Commitment?

I absolutely love this book. Spoiler alert, it doesn't end with your typical love conquers all scenario.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Avoiding Commitment?

Everything was memorable. I read some of the reviews first which some were brutal. Me being the cynic that I am caused me to want to listen to the story myself to draw my own conclusion. I was actually capable of relating to this story in more ways than I can count. I absolutely loved this story. Not certain on if I'll like the 3 sequels that follow but this story was great.

Have you listened to any of Greg Abbey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Mr. Abbey before but his voice was captivating. I'm not really certain on what it is (Lie) but I love the sound of a mans voice reading to me even if the lead character is a woman. Especially if the voice has a very masculine tone.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed mostly plus I had a lot of OMG's, you go girl and shut the front door moments in the mix

Any additional comments?

If you're not always looking for the damsel in distress and gets rescued story then take a listen and draw your on conclusion.
