Australian Hunting Backcountry

As the name suggests, the podcast is focusing on backcountry hunting, not only in Australia and New Zealand, but anywhere else overseas where great adventures exist. I want to bring a podcast that explores gear, places and hunting opportunities, lived experiences, different perspectives and share the passion that people have for hard earned hunts. I will also bring Australian and small businesses to the front, so listeners are exposed to some of the smaller or niche providers out there that support hunters and give hunters the chance to hear about things that they might want but didn’t know to look for. We will examine gear and hear why hunters want/need some products and might not need others, conduct comparisons between products and locations and discuss the work/life/hunting balance of hunters. The podcast will be educational and entertaining for hunters ranging from those who have no backpack hunting experience to those that consider themselves experts (as we can all learn something from someone).Tobias Turner

  • Ep. 39 How to get attacked by a bear and shoot yourself with Tyler Johnson
    Mar 12 2026

Ever dreamed of hunting in Alaska...me too. Ever dreamed of getting chomped on by a grizzly....me neither - but in this episode I chat with Tyler who was out hunting with his father and had a life changing bear encounter. Thankfully (and obviously) he lived and is able to tell us all about it. Not only that but he's turned this into a positive and is helping others to not become bear poop.

Make sure to give him a follow and reach out if you are after advice on an Alaskan hunt; grizzlylife907

Hi team, welcome to the first episode for 2026.

In this episode I chat with James about using mountain bikes for a backcountry hunt in the Alpine National Park. We cover off on some of the difficulties he experienced with this form of backcountry transport and some of the benefits. James also passes on some tips for anyone looking to give this a try but if you'd like to see some pics from their trip check out his instagram; @james5platt

  • Special Ep. - UNITED WE STAND
    Dec 25 2025

This podcast brings together a coalition of independent podcast hosts from across Australia to engage in a measured, evidence-based discussion on the proposed changes to legal firearms ownership laws in Australian states.

We begin by acknowledging the horrific atrocities that have prompted renewed public debate. We extend our sincerest condolences to all victims, families, and communities affected. Their loss is profound, and it deserves both respect and seriousness in how policy responses are considered.

Across a large portion of the Australian public, there is clear agreement on one central point: law-abiding firearms owners are not responsible for acts of terrorism or violent extremism. The hosts united in this discussion contend that altering existing firearms laws would not have prevented the actions of determined terrorist extremists, who by definition operate outside legal and regulatory frameworks.

Within this podcast, these issues—and many others—are examined in depth. Together, the hosts seek to present a unified message of solidarity, advocating for rational policy, accountability, and integrity in public discourse. This is a refusal to accept scapegoating in place of confronting genuine governmental and procedural failings, and a call for solutions that are grounded in facts rather than fear.

This is not a culture war monologue; it’s a plan built on unity and calm persistence. We ask listeners to act locally, communicate clearly, and check on their mates. If you care about hunting, target shooting, conservation, or simply fair process, this conversation gives you the words and the steps to make a difference right now.

If this resonated, share it with a mate, sign the petitions, and send your email today. Subscribe for follow‑ups and wins, and leave a review so more Aussies can find this conversation.

Thanks for all your support in 2025 - Tobias.
