Hated the bad language! Too much!

I absolutely hated the foul language! It was carried too far and ruined the story for me! The performers were good. The story was disturbing. But the cursing like a longshoreman ruined it. Total waste of my money and time.

Funny and gut wrenching drama.

Sometimes outrageously laugh out loud funny, but the laugh sticks in your throat as often as not. This is at it's heart a gut wrenching family drama. All the more harrowing due to a great cast of actors that know and feel their characters. The emotions really comes across.

I hesitated when buying this. Do I really want to give almost three hours of listening time to a live audience play? Let me say, I did not regret it.

Almost as good as being there...

I never got to see this play live. This is the next best thing. I'm very glad I purchased this title. The story is compelling and very well written. I've read plays before, but this stars the original Tony award winning cast. Great way to spend 3 hours. Listening to a little bit of culture.

not recommended. 1.5 stars overall.

I'm only half way through this one but wanted to provide a review for anyone considering this daily deal today. in short, skip it.

I have liked many of these types of audibles; recordings of short plays. based on that past experience and the sample and the 99c price today i bought without really knowing what this was about.

the result is disappointing. i chuckled a couple times at the sample. i liked the alcoholic guy, but not the pill-popper woman. the book has more of the stuff i didn't like about the pill-popper and very little of what i liked about the funny alcoholic guy. in fact, i haven't laughed once in the first 90 minutes besides the couple things i liked in the sample.

as for the play, i didn't think the story or the acting was all that good. it's certainly not 'twelve angry men' or Julius Caesar or anything. it's not funny or all that clever. maybe I'll like the end better than the beginning but ultimately i regret the wasted couple hours and my purchase decision (even at the sale price).

bottom line: don't buy unless you already know you like this play.

update: i forced myself to finish it. I still didn't like it at all. The drunk guy died so there went any hope of humor. The dialog is good for what this play was, but the subject matter and characters were not appealing to me. Story gets 2 stars. Overall gets just 1.5 stars because I didn't enjoy it and I was not entertained. Performance of actors rates 3 stars.

Amazing story!

This emotional interplay of family relationships and the role of grace and forgiveness kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the performance.
