Publisher's summary

Over 2 million people have read the #1 New York Times bestseller Wonder and have fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face. Readers have also been treated to three stories offering a special look at Auggie's world through new points of view. Previously only available individually, now they'll be published all together in one audio collection!

These stories are an extra peek at Auggie before he started at Beecher Prep and during his first year there. Listeners get to see him through the eyes of Julian, the bully; Christopher, Auggie's oldest friend; and Charlotte, Auggie's new friend at school. Together, these three stories are a treasure for listeners who don't want to leave Auggie behind when they finish Wonder.

Critic reviews

"A different narrator performs each of three companion stories to Palacio's beloved book, Wonder. Mike Chamberlain gives the most affecting performance in the first story... Funny, moving, and true to middle school, this production is worth repeat listening." (AudioFile)

AWESOME!

A must read for children who are bullied or struggle with acceptance or any one who has witnessed bullying. I love that this books gives us a clear perspective from the bully's point of view!

Excellent companion stories!

I absolutely loved Wonder and was tempted to buy the Kindle Single of the Julian Chapter. But I hesitated and promptly forgot about it. When I saw that story and two others in an audiobook anthology,I bought it immediately. Here are my thoughts:

JULIAN: As someone who definitely likes to see the best in people, even I found little redeeming qualities of Julian. I was sure this story would show he’s not that bad a kid. I was right, but what I really liked about this story was seeing the germination of Julian’s behavior and how his parents didn’t exactly prepare him for being a compassionate kid. But meeting his Gran Mere and hearing her story was something that really stuck with me. This is an excellent story and you’ll really see a character’s growth. This was my favorite story.

PLUTO: Christopher was an important part of Auggie’s life and this story was a look into the past and present of a true friendship. I especially liked how this story, more than the others, showed Auggie’s relationship and events outside of the original story. There’s a bit of that in Julian, but I enjoyed seeing more of him in this story.

SHIMALING

Charlotte kind of bugged me in “Wonder” but I couldn’t put my finger on it. R.J. Palacio (who writes/reads a fantastic introduction by the way!) knew how to explain it. This story really has the least to do with Auggie, but I really think it was a very realistic portrayal of middle school girl drama. And I loved the character’s dedication to dance.

Overall: The narration for each character was performed by a different actor. All were excellent, especially Michael Chamberlain who really did an amazing job with Julian’s Gran Mere. My only criticism is that the Julian and Charlotte pronounced Mr. Tuchman’s name differently. Not a biggie, but jarring in my opinion. Especially because kids will all learn how to pronounce the Principal’s name correctly.

Wonder is an amazing book, and these stories support the major theme of compassion. I hope more kids (and adults!) take the baton and change the world!

P.S. Did anyone else “wonder” why these 5th graders knew so much about the middle school they hadn’t attended? In the Charlotte story, it was revealed that the lower school was not in the same building as the Middle School? Not even next door, I think. I guess there would be some whole school get together, but it struck me as odd, that’s all!

How I like this book

I like this book because in the first book at the end of it Julian becomes nicer. in the second book I figure out what’s behind the scenes for Christopher. and in the third book it’s a good book but I personally think it’s kind of girly in a few parts but the third book is generally a very good book. I recommend this book to my beloved grandmother
