明治の御代、麻取場で働く女たちが、仕事終わりに火鉢の周りに集まり、誰言うともなく怪談話に花を咲かせていると、興に乗った一人が近くにある幽霊滝にたった一人で出向いてみるものはいないかと言い出した。一人で行って帰ってこられたらその日の自分が紡いだ分の麻をみんなくれてやろうというのだ。
すると、二歳の息子をおぶった安本お勝が「そんなら私が」と名乗りを上げる。滝のふもとの社の前にある賽銭箱を証拠として持ち帰るという約束の元、凍てつく冬の空の下にかけ出ていくのだが…。

瀬戸物問屋は番頭の六兵衛の采配で大いに商売繁盛。主人の喜兵衛が六兵衛に「人手を増やしたいのだが、お前の見立てで瀬戸物屋の経験のある者を雇うように」と相成った。六兵衛は甥を雇ったのだが、甥は六兵衛に引けを取らない正直まじめで、商売の才能はぴかイチだった。
店は繁盛、皆大喜びだったが甥は体を壊して床に就き、日増しに悪くなる一方。聞かされた病の原因は思いもよらぬものだった。
「青頭巾」(雨月物語)(26分)
諸国を旅しながら修行を続けていた快庵という禅僧がいた。旅の途中立ち寄った村で日暮れを迎え一軒の大きな農家の前で一夜の宿を願おうと取次ぎを待っていると、野良仕事から帰ってきたこの家の小作人たちが口々に「鬼が下りてきた!」と大騒ぎ。屋敷の中から出てきた主人が改めてみると鬼ではないとわかる。
事情を聞くと、この里を長く見ている山中の寺の高徳の僧が、ある日旅から戻ると美少年をともに連れて帰ってきた。ところが少年は病であっけなく死んでしまい、それからその僧は人肉を食らう鬼となってしまったというのである。
「吉備津の釜」(雨月物語) (35分)
吉備の国郡庭妹の里に井沢庄太夫という大きな農家があった。先祖は武士で今や豪農として裕福だったが、親に似ず一人息子の正太郎は仕事もせず酒色にふけり両親の悩みの種だった。
そこで良い嫁を娶れば落ち着くだろうと思って国中探し回ったところ仲立ちをしてくれる人がいて神主の娘、磯良を嫁に迎えることになった。二人の結婚将来を占うために御釜祓いという儀式を行うとあろうことか凶兆が出た。この凶兆が後々恐ろしい現実となって二人を、両家を襲うことになる。
