Publisher's summary

A witty and cleverly crafted Pride and Prejudice variation, Absurdities and Assumptions retells the story of the courtship between Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.

This classic couple’s romance is shaken off course when, shortly after leaving Hertfordshire, Darcy receives word that one of the Bennet sisters is engaged to the obsequious Mr. Collins. Darcy, a rich and powerful landowner, knows Elizabeth is not a suitable match, but having already lost the battle with Cupid, he finds himself rushing back to the countryside. He is relieved to discover it is Mary Bennet who is destined to become Mrs. Collins.

But his path to happiness is still far from assured. Darcy may have resolved his internal struggle to accept Elizabeth as she is, but he must now overcome a rival and his own inability to interpret events around him.

Filled with hilarious misunderstandings and mishaps, Assumptions and Absurdities is sure to entertain.

Sweet story

I liked this variation, it was a fun listen. the narration was ok -- not great -- with a hollow sound at points.

Good P&P variation

I enjoy P&P variations. This one had a great storyline. Overheard conversations and wrong conclusion make for an interesting story. The narrator spoke very fast. I slowed it down but her tone and voice did not improve. The best variations use original dialogue but this one only used a few words and phrases. If you like P&P variations this is a good Escape selection. Not sure I’d purchase it.

Great Read

Loved the book. The only reason for one less star is that the audio was not the best in some parts. elder I really enjoyed it.

Delightful Variation

I so enjoyed listening to this variation which made me chuckle several times. The characters stayed true but with more strength, humility and wit. Whether you prefer to read the novel or listen to the audiobook you will not be disappointed. I truly enjoyed it and will certainly be one I will listen to over and over.

Narrator was distracting

The narrator rushed through the story with virtually no effort to distinguish between male and female characters.

Liked not Loved...

I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This Pride and Prejudice variation has a pleasant enough plot and considerably differs from the original storyline to keep your attention throughout the book. I particularly liked the way Mary, the often overlooked Bennett sister, was given a more prominent role. I always felt she would have been a great match for Rev. Collins... When we encounter Mr. Darcy, right from the beginning, his heart already belongs to Elizabeth Bennett, but it will take the entire book before they finally accept that truth. There are light moments that are truly pleasant and funny thought the story, and I liked the idea that for once it was Georgiana that advised the forbidding brother. As I understand this was the first venture by this author into the Pride and Prejudice variation genre, I can understand why she thought the more the better. It was fine for me, but it might feel a little drawn out to others. Now for the narration... Unfortunately I did not enjoy the narrator's interpretation. It came out as a little flat, not indicative of the characters' traits. All in all, still an enjoyable book of this genre that will be appreciated by the Jane Austen's fan club.

little expression

the story seemed longer than necessary but maybe if I had read it myself or maybe it was the narrator herself. The narrator was very stiff sounding very little change in tone, expression.

Delightfully and cleverly written

Story: (5 stars)

What a joy to listen to this book! It captured the feeling of clever humor that graced Jane Austen’s writings and yet hardly quoted any of her novel directly. (A pet peeve of mine is when large portions of P&P are quoted in variations.) A few new characters are introduced (yay!) and Wickham is done away with(yay?) but I loved this version!

Will be listening to more by Ms. Worth!

Narration: (3 stars)

The narrator did a fine job, with the occasional mis-pronunciation which threw me momentarily out of the flow of the book, but that is my only complaint. She did well!

a little predictable

the story was a little bit predictable, but for what I paid for it it was worth it. The narrator was great but the only problem I had was that the sound would either increase or decrease in volume randomly.

Adorably Absurd!

In this Pride and Prejudice variation, one tiny change spells the rewriting Lizzy and Darcy's entire story. Mr. Collins' marriage to Mary Bennet brings Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy back to Netherfield Park, each fearing that their respective Ms. Bennet is Collins' intended bride. After seeing Jane and Lizzy again, each man decides to follow their heart and court their ladies. But Jane's heart is now on guard from Bingley's abandonment, and Darcy discovers he may never have had Lizzy's heart at all.

This was an adorably absurd variation! I didn't come into this book expecting to find the character's unchanged, if I was a purist I would reread the original. I love seeing the characters in different situations with different reactions. This variation has a determined Bingley, a guarded Jane, and a Georgiana who freely dispenses advice to a willing Darcy. But that just makes it all that much more fun. The writing was delightful, and there were many scenes that had me laughing out loud. I really liked how much dialogue there was, and how many scenes with our favorite couples. There's also no Wickham, but a whole lot of fun with Anne de Bourgh.

The narration was done well, I had no trouble getting pulled into the story. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. If this is the first published work by this author, I can't wait to see what's next!
