Publisher's summary

A man with secrets meets a woman on the run.

Finn can't discuss his career; it's classified. He's about to leave Puerto Rico on a mission when he meets Mary. She wants to hitch a ride on his sailboat; she doesn't care where he's going.

Finn thinks she's a rootless kid looking for adventure. He'll take her along; she'll provide cover for his clandestine activity.

They're preparing to leave when Finn learns there's more to Mary's baggage than her backpack. He has second thoughts about giving her a ride, but it's too late. They need to get away from Puerto Rico in a hurry.

As they sail down island, Finn grows fond of Mary. She's had a run of bad luck, and he's sympathetic. When they reach their first stop, they discover that she didn't leave her troubles behind.

What's Finn gotten himself into? Listen to Assassins and Liars and find out.

Sailing Thriller

I did enjoy listening to this sailing thriller and is perfect title as both Finn and Mary Beth are liars and assassins. It had good character involvement, a lot of sailing, and some action/violence with good narration. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you!

Tell me no lies

This book delivers in everything you could ask for mystery romance lies murder. Never trust anyone and don’t turn your back that knife/gun was meant for you. What you thought was true was a lie.
Who’s the real assassin? Who’s the real victim?
Charles Dougherty did an excellent job on this and no one could have narrated it better than David Bosco

Smart Assassins

So this story was given to me for a honest review. It was a very adventurous story. The entire time you are trying to figure out Mary's story and what she is hiding. Fin tries to help her out of the mess she is in. They seem to grow a chemistry while sailing around together trying to hide out.

Story & narration will draw you in...more please!

Assassins and Liars (J. R. Finn Sailing Mystery Series, Book 1) by Charles Dougherty and narrated by David Bosco is a quick, fun listen that will draw you in. I’d recommend for those who enjoy mysteries with sailing elements or are looking for a shorter listen.

What’s it about? The title does the book justice. While traveling for work on his boat Island Girl, Finn encounters Mary Beth. He lets her to tag along to his next location, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Both have secrets they need to keep hidden. Both enjoy the sailing life. The two have more in common than they realize.

It contains a good amount of sailing terminology at times, but it shouldn’t be confusing even if you are newcomer (you have likely heard some of the terms before- mast, bow, tiller, mainsheet, halyard, sail ties, and so on). The writing and narration will pull you in. I listened to this in one sitting (didn’t even realize five hours had passed until the book ended).

David Bosco does an outstanding job with this one. I’d recommend listening to the audiobook as David’s narrations are brilliant and add to the story.

Overall, I recommend, while keeping in mind that this is book one of four so you will not find out everything quite yet. I cannot wait for the next audiobook and will be waiting patiently (perhaps a little impatiently).

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: some swearing (not excessive), murder/death, breaking of a male’s arm by female due to abuse (told as a story), relationships, and violence. Not saying anything else due to spoilers.

YESSSSSSSSS!

Stop everything that you're doing and listen to this book!! If you like your mysteries with a side of mystery, well then grab some earbuds and plugin. This book delivers!!!

Assassins and liars are at the heart of it all and it is as advertised. I was driving when this book ended and I screamed "Nooooo!" I may have cursed a little too, not sure.

I loved, loved, loved the narration. Bosco gave us a tough-as-nails former military and a wayward twentysomething female. It was effortless.

The next book in the series is not yet available (yes, I checked) but I will be Johnny-on-the-spot when it does!

Excellent Start to a New Series

I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I agreed to review this audiobook based on the recommendation of its narrator David Bosco. He always does an outstanding job of it, getting right into the characters' personalities. I had listened to other series he performed and was willing to give this new one a try. I'm very glad I did! The story is a compelling one and the characters very likable in a scruffy kind of way. The nautical terminology, though pretty technical at times, will not detract from the storyline even if you are not an expert sailer. It is a mystery that takes place mostly at sea and seaports along the islands, a somewhat different approach to this genre. The ending of the book leaves you wondering however and you'll need to wait for the next chapter in the series to find out if the complicated relationship between the two main characters and their perilous life-styles will ultimately find some common ground. This audiobook it's worth a listen for sure. David Bosco once again, makes the characters come alive and gives the book its just due.

Really good

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a truly well done book. The narration is fantastic and really brings the story to life. I did feel that there was a bit too much about sail boats and their use. It wasn't so bad I couldn't finish the book, I just felt like it could have been toned down some to make it more palatable to a broader audience. The story line is interesting and it was fun to follow and try to figure out what Finn and Mary Beth are hiding. All in all, this was a very enjoyable listen. I'm definitely moving on to book 2.
