Publisher's summary
Assassin’s Creed: Gold is a stand-alone action tale from the Assassin's Creed universe.
Meet Aliyah Kahn, a card shark and hustler who’s been dealt a rough hand in life. Living off of her street smarts and scams, Aliyah makes do until she’s outhustled big time by a mysterious older man, Gavin Banks. Her only option to pay the debt is to become an Assassin for Banks. During her training, he tells Aliyah of the centuries-old battle between the Assassins and Templars, asking her to help him decode a secret message inscribed on an illegal form of currency during the Great Recoinage of 1696. This exciting thriller features a full cast, including Emmy winner Riz Ahmed and Anthony Head.
Featuring fan favorite characters of the beloved franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Gold tells a gripping tale of imminent economic collapse, featuring appearances from Warden of the Royal Mint, Isaac Newton, con artist and counterfeiter William Chaloner, blind assassin Omar Khaled, assassin trainer Rose Galloway, and Aliyah’s long-lost father. Equal parts adrenaline-fueled and thought-provoking, Assassin’s Creed: Gold draws a compelling parallel with the financial chaos of Isaac Newton’s 17th-century Britain and the economic uncertainty of recent times.
Audible’s full-cast drama brings the clash of the Assassins and Templars to life as a gripping audio thriller with lead performances from Riz Ahmed (Emmy winner, Golden Globe nominee, The Night Of, Rogue One, Four Lions), Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Merlin, Little Britain), Danny Wallace (BAFTA Games Award winner, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed III), and Tamara Lawrance (Corvidae, On Chesil Beach).
The Audible Original also features the talents of Laura Aikman, Rachel Atkins, Brian Bowles, Andrew Branch, John Chancer, Lily Donovan, Rupert Fairley, Ray Fearon, Owen Findlay, Jason Forbes, Nicholas Goh, David John, Jim Johnson, Will Kelly, John Last, Gemma Lawrence, Nicholas le Prevost, Simon Lipson, Hayward Morse, Paul Panting, Laila Payne, Nigel Pilkington, Joseph Radcliffe, David Rintoul, Anne Rosenfeld, Jennifer Saayeng, Gyuri Sarossy, and Daniel Weyman.

Our favorite moments from Assassin's Creed: Gold
Ok—I want more!
The Assassin's Creed video game franchise follows an intriguing premise: a centuries-old secret war between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order, fought through various historical time periods and told from a modern-day perspective. The games are vast, immersive, and challenging with intricate puzzles, and, of course, deadly stealth assassinations. Assassin’s Creed: Gold is an all-new Audible Original multi-cast drama and stand-alone story that takes place during the Great Recoinage of 1696. Riz Ahmed, Danny Wallace, Tamara Lawrance, and Anthony Head as Isaac Newton (!!) give stellar performances in this breathtaking listen that captures the adrenaline-fueled action sequences from the video games. I must say that it does help if you’re just a tad familiar with the Assassin’s Creed world as there are some surprises from past games, but not so much where you’d be lost in the story. Bring on more video game-inspired listens!

Fits in perfectly to the overall AC lore
I am and have been a huge Assassin’s Creed fan since the first game, so with a grain of salt I must say I was extremely impressed with Assassin’s Creed Gold. It has all the hallmarks of your classic Assassin’s Creed story. I won’t spoil it here, but the twist of our historical protagonist Omar Khaled is not only inclusive but works brilliantly with this story being a spoken word presentation.
My only complaint is how heavily the story relies on curse words. The amount of S**t and F bombs they drop just comes across as forcefully edgy. It didn’t offend me by any means as I’m used to hearing “bad words” in mature entertainment but IMHO I would think a group of highly trained, constantly on the run modern day assassins would be not only accustomed to being chased but would be educated enough to use more creative verbiage.
Beyond that, it is absolutely worth your time, especially if you’re an Assassin’s Creed fan like myself.

Dramatizations can be hit or miss for me sometimes but this one was 100%. Having Isaac newton as a main character was exciting as well.

Gripping audio drama still leaves you wanting
The writing and performance of this were aces in my opinion, however there is a jarring acclimation at the beginning: some may need coming to terms with Aliyah’s and Michelle’s VERY liberal use of the f-bomb (this word peppers my own tongue daily so didn’t really bother me but was surprising to hear HOW often), but otherwise (minor SPOILER BY OMISSION ahead!!!) My only gripe was they failed to included ANY Piece of Eden. They casually mention the Philosopher’s Stone twice in conversation, but it’s never searched for nor found, it’s all about the counterfeit money. That is to say, however, this story still holds its own both as a good narrative and as a good fit in the Assassin’s Creed world for its on-edge, betrayal-ridden, timehopping history lesson with a great sound design in the backgrounds to boot! As an AC fanboy, it’s a must-have for me. As a casual consumer, it’s a fantastical story nonetheless.

Assassin’s Creed was pretty juvenile.
I had hoped this book would have been some sort of adventurous story filled with intrigue and an intelligent plot. I was sorely disappointed to discover that the plot was juvenile and filled with dumb whinny outbursts from the lead characters. The plot was just plain ridiculous.

Why so much profanity? Nothing but f-bombs!
I really tried to read this book. I hoped the profanity would just be used occasionally. NOT SO! Anthony Del Col lost me when he started using f-bombs in most of the initial characters’ dialogues. Don’t waste your time if you’re like me and hate a story ruined with excessive profanity!

Maybe just not my thing!
I enjoyed playing the game but definitely does not translate to book form for me. It lacks an eloquence and sophistication that a literary work needs to be successful. The amount of cursing in it just distracts from the story. In the game its fine as it is a submersive experience, but you need a different approach to achieve the same effect in a book. Also the fine graphics in the game need to compensated for by finer discription of place and atmosphere in a written work. Full credit to the actors but this script needs reworking.

A really frustrating listen
Having seen a few reviews bring the swearing into question I initially dismissed them as being too prudish, but actually having listened I have to agree that, yes, there is too much swearing! I'm still not sure if it's a misguided attempt to be edgy or just lazy writing, but it certainly doesn't add to the immersion.
Any kind of fictional entertainment asks that you suspend disbelief, but this book really makes you work hard to do so. Our main character is a grifter in the modern day, we first meet her pulling the classic 'find the lady' three card monte routine… In 2020… on the streets of London. As if that isn't hard enough to believe somehow a wealthy upper class mark comes along, who not only has never been made aware of this centuries old carnival scam through TV, books etc., but is also inexplicably willing to throw down a substantial amount of cash on the game. Upon discovering it's a scam he calls out for a "copper". Not "police", not "help", but copper. Maybe it seems like I'm overly analysing a small exchange, but they continue on like this throughout the opening.
Early on contact is made with the Assassins. A character introduces himself as being with the "Assassins Brotherhood", to which our protagonist immediately questions "brotherhood?". Again this is in the modern day, are we really meant to believe that of those two words it’s brotherhood she takes exception to?
Maybe I’m nitpicking, but I really found the dialogue to be painful to the point of absolutely drawing me out of the story at every opportunity.

Just not a good story
While I enjoyed the performance, I thought the story weak and disjointed. Spending too much time on minor parts of the story and then skipping through the important parts of the story seems like a strange thing to do.

Assassins Creed if it was CW tv show
If i could describe the opening 20mins of this audiobook in one word it would be obnoxious. An obnoxious main character with an obnoxious voice cursing every other sentence and bababling on about gambling. When this story finally started to feel like assassin's creed around 20mins the main character finds herself in the company of the assassins. Whom within minutes she accepts at face value and jumps into the animus. It was also at this point they decided to criticize the name "assassins brotherhood" for not being gender neutral because apparently we're living in the me too era. So i thought maybe once we get into the animus we won't have to listen to this obnoxious millennial dialogue, after all we're going to the 1600s. But no, they actually have the main character commentating what her annesestor is experiencing. And of course being your average obnoxious millennial interprets every disagreement between two people of different races as racism. It was at that point i tapped out and was done with this nonsense. Like i said, thoroughly obnoxious.

not bad
i quite enjoyed it but it felt like loads of the issues in it are forced. there was a bit in it when the female lead wakes up and she is offered some curry and she says this is a bit stereotypical as i believe she is asian in it. there was no need for this as curry is very common place in england. just seemed very forced. try not to bring agenda's into the next audiobook.

High potential, ruined
I am a fan of the games and was looking forward to the chance to expand the universe. However the level of unrequited swearing kept pulling me out of the story. I understand that people swear, but in this story it serves no purpose and is used so casually it can't even be said to be being used for emphasis or effect.
The story itself is interesting if a little strangely paced. If you start it, stick with it, the story improves (and conversely the swearing reduces) as it goes on, and I would be intrigued to maybe give a sequel a try, especially if they spent more time in the present day setting.

loved it, as a fan of the games I can attest by saying it's not really like them at all, but that's not a bad thing. the characters are well voiced and are pretty intriguing (Omar is definitely a favourite for me and hopefully he might get introduced in the games one day) the production did a good job with sound effects as well.
overall, an enjoyable listening experience, I just wish it was a bit longer.

Incredibly well made and uniquely suited to the series
This is the first time I’ve ever been able to maintain my attention with an audiobook. The decision to have Omar be blind makes the story work perfectly in universe and allows us to experience the reality of what eagle vision really does for the user. You can hear the minute details of the foley artists work and can feel how the world develops around Omar’s senses.
The story is a new example of what made the original assassins creed games work so well. A historically grounded story with the intertwining of the assassins story. Less focus on the isu and more on how the universes history is impacted by the millennia long feud.
The voice acting is amazing and pushes the story forward by allowing for emotions to show and relationships to be understood implicitly.

Bit of a let down
The voice acting is excellent as well as the story about Omar and Issac Newton but the writing for the female character is terrible. She is un-relatable as a protagonist and she swears worst than a trucker.
Would not recommend this story as a result, the games are by far superior content.

Investigating a crime seemingly unconnected to the Royal Family, Holmes & Watson uncover a conspiracy to kidnap Queen Victoria and destabilise the British Empire. With a ticking clock to her next public engagement, Holmes and Watson must discover who is behind the plot and locate her majesty, while Mycroft tries to keep the monarch’s disappearance a secret from the British people. She's just programmed a wonderful lead into the holidays at Sunny Street Cinema, which leaves her plenty of time to worry about going home to Cumbria for Christmas. Her mum and stepdad are fine, but the thought of spending another holiday with her awful stepsister Becca is enough to make a Scrooge out of anyone. When Becca calls to let her know about the dreamy pilot she's bringing to Christmas lunch, Julia finally snaps and does something very silly.

Now meet Peter, a deeply troubled computer genius who lives in a basement apartment, chugging red wine, nursing old grudges and writing code. When Harry meets Peter, it’s both of their lives that will change, when they invent an app for murder.

For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.
