Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, a new novelisation based on one of the biggest gaming-media franchises in the world.

Read by the actor Gunnar Cauthery.

'I will seek Vengeance upon those who betrayed my family. I am Ezio Auditore di Firenze. I am an Assassin...'

The Year of Our Lord 1476 - the Renaissance: culture and art flourish alongside the bloodiest corruption and violence. Bitter blood-feuds rage between the warring political families of Italy.

Following the murder of his father and brothers, Ezio Auditore di Firenze is entrusted with an ancient Codex, the key to a conspiracy that goes back to the centuries-old conflict between the shadowy Templar Knights and the elite Order of Assassins.

Ezio must avenge the deaths of his kinsmen and in doing so fulfil his destiny, and live by the laws of the Assassin's Creed.

Truth is written in blood.

Assassin's Creed: Renaissance is based on the phenomenally successful gaming series. Fans of the game will love these stories. Other titles in the series include Assassin's Creed: Forsaken, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: The Secret Crusade, and Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Oliver Bowden is the pen-name of an acclaimed novelist.

Very good and thrilling,

very good and thrilling but I expected a more profound story. Go deeper into the story of the game.

Stumbles along blindly

Would you try another book from Oliver Bowden and Anton Gill and/or Gunnar Cauthery?

Yes, another book, to see if this was a one off poor writting performance and a later novel might be better.
I will look for another narrator though.

Would you be willing to try another one of Gunnar Cauthery’s performances?

Possibly.
I do not like to single out one individual for a poor performance, especially considering the novel he had to deal with was poor to begin with. But the main concern was the different voices used, while i commend him on managing so many different characters, these sounded like the most Scottish Venetian's I have ever heard.
The various accents realy did not suit the setting.

Any additional comments?

Id use a spare credit for another of these novels and not pay in the future and I urge you to do the same. Story is not well written, very repeditive and lots of italian thrown in for no good reason. Narrator also uses accents that do not compliment the books setting and period, which adds to preventing the reader from being immersed in the story.

I just couldn't get into it.

What did you like best about Assassin's Creed? What did you like least?

It was set in my favorite time period.

I was constantly turning the volume way up and way down. That was very aggravating.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

If things were more realistic

Do you think Assassin's Creed needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No

Any additional comments?

The volume/ narration was very aggravating

Non games player review

I knew Assassins Creed as a video game series but I've not played them. Now that you know that know that this book stands up where most stories based on video games seem to fail. For fans of historical fiction this book is a interesting listen for its little nods to historical figures and facts. It also has an interesting performance of a British/Italian accent which was very enjoyable. Have just burnt some credits on the next two books!

Great fun!

What made the experience of listening to Assassin's Creed the most enjoyable?

The storyline wasnt too serious, having never played the games it was fun to listen to and mildly amusing.

What did you like best about this story?

What could be told in 12hrs was told in 12hrs not 21hrs, the book was explanatory but to the point, no lengthy explainations which werent required.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this in one sitting, (a very long car journey)

Any additional comments?

A nice easy listen (with the exception of the volume level changing) narrator was clear and well pronounced with good vocal range.

Amazing Story

I am a massive fan of the Assassins Creed games so I expected nothing less than perfection, the narrator brought the entire story to life and the story as a whole was fantastic, I would highly recommend.

Poor attempt at an adaptation

The writing was very average. It was a blow by blow account of the missions of the game without any writing to flesh out the story. It works in the game because you are part of the world in which the story is set. The author failed to recreate that rich world on paper. The audio performance was fairly good but hampered by poor writing. The last section of the book was much better as the author did create a sense of renaissance Italy. However that was countered by the author changing the story which was a little disappointing. If you are a fan of the games maybe give it a try. If you haven't played the games don't listen to this first as it missing 90% of what made assaisins creed 2 such an epic game

Good Narrator, Average Story.

it wasn't a bad story, but it wasn't a great one either.. It was almost like the author sat down and wrote as he watched the game being played. The narrator was very good though! Definitely made listening to the story a lot better. I'd give the story a 6.5/10.

All the Characters in this story are either Itay or Spain, so what accent should the reader use? Why British of course!
