The Stories Stay With You

Hearing AS A RESULT on this broadcast made the scenes come alive. From the very first pages of a troubled marriage, going back through childhood, coming-of-age and climaxing in recovery, the memoir makes an impression on those of us who’ve had similar struggles. The new hope expressed after all of the grief experienced makes the book most satisfying.

Honest. Relatable. Encouraging.

A beautifully written story of a real life, including the good times, the bad times, and the parts nobody ever saw. The author artfully shows us how her experiences from childhood through adulthood have shaped the person she is today, and shares with us so much of what she has learned along the way. The overarching theme of grace and redemption left me with a sense of hope. I walked away remembering that any circumstance we face can not only eventually help us grow, but also equip us to help others feel less alone.

Childhood memories of trauma from alcoholism

This is a well narrated story by a performer who sings and does different voices for characters. The story itself is very long winded recollection of playground and neighborhood friends in her childhood. Most of the memories are just about daily living with a few sprinkles of trauma from her parents alcoholism. She then fast forward to aldulthood and stops drinking with the story ending. There is an epilogue that just has some words of wisdom. It would’ve been better to have the story tells about her childhood in one or two chapters and then really go into depth how this recovery happened, and more of the day to day living as an adult with trauma. Her child dies and there is barely a paragraph about that.
