Publisher's Summary

As a Man Thinketh is a literary essay and book by James Allen, published in 1903. It was described by Allen as "... [dealing] with the power of thought, and particularly with the use and application of thought to happy and beautiful issues. I have tried to make the book simple, so that all can easily grasp and follow its teaching, and put into practice the methods which it advises. It shows how, in his own thought-world, each man holds the key to every condition, good or bad, that enters into his life, and that, by working patiently and intelligently upon his thoughts, he may remake his life, and transform his circumstances. It was also described by Allen as "A book that will help you to help yourself", "A pocket companion for thoughtful people", and "A book on the power and right application of thought."

Improvement starts from within..

Life is a journey you can struggle against or think positive and find ways to roll with the experience. It's less stressful and bearable when you discard the negative attitude that prevents you from achieving your goals. Changing an unwanted situation starts with the power of thought. When you change the way you think, you change your quality of life. The way this book is worded feels a little outdated, but the message still holds true. I requested this book in exchange for my honest review. It definitely made me think about what I can change do to make my life richer.

The power of positive thought

A very thought provoking essay on how positive thinking can have a positive impact on your life.

Roberto Scarlato's narration was very well done and easy to listen to.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

A Book That Will Spark Positive Change Within

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I was first acquainted with this book in 1977, and until I was given a copy for the purposes of this voluntary review, I hadn't thought much about the book. That's unfortunate indeed, since adhering to its ideas on a regular basis would have added hugely to my life. This, then, is a treasure rediscovered.

Essentially, this book looks at the power of thoughts to govern our actions, successes, and even our opportunities. I don't find the ideas old fashioned or quaint. Indeed, I find that I need the perspective this book offers now more than I did as a young person when I first read it. As I write this, a new year is less than 24 hours old. While I'm not a fan of resolutions, I will revisit this book numerous times throughout this year and beyond. I'm convinced that, if its principles are seriously and consistently applied, the book can empower anyone who reads it to "think anew," as President Lincoln once urged, and by changing our thought processes, we can change our life's direction.
The narration of this particular edition is absolutely spot on and compelling. While there are other editions of this which have been narrated by others, this narration adds a life and vibrance to the book that enriches it and adds much to its value.

Mind Cleansers

As I thought about how to review this, I realized for me I like these sort of audios because they are mind cleansers. They do make you think, or reflect. But, they stop all of the to do list, chores, worries, etc in my mind and make me think or focus on positive things that calm my mind. I like the message here. The wording was a bit antiquated, but the messages were still clear. I really enjoyed this one, and others I've recently acquired, and tend to sleep better after listening to them before bed. The information may not be new, but more a reminder and cleanser that can be used daily.

Good for strengthening things I knew already

I like the positive thinking books as they reset my daily life to a more positive thinking. This book didn't give me new knowledge but was nice to listen to although a bit to preaching for my taste.

Timeless advice that everybody should learn

This book is a good short read packed with great quotable tidbits. I think that I'll eventually end up buying a physical copy of the book so that I can highlight it and mark it up.

The language of the book can be a little tricky because it was published in 1903. The phrasing is just a little bit different than modern vernacular and it reminded me a lot of listening to scripture being read. It's not too bad though, it just required a little bit more focus than usual to comprehend.

Overall, I'd say that this is a solid book that is well worth the hour that will take you to finish.
