Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Confronted by the realities of adulthood, Romesh Ranganathan must face an uncomfortable truth: this is not quite how he imagined it.

Watching his friends descend into middle age, his waistline thicken and his finances dwindle to fund his family’s middle class aspirations, Romesh reflects on the demands of daily life and the challenges of adulting in the modern world.

As he reluctantly concludes that he is indeed a grown man, Rom wrestles with the greater questions that threaten his being: could I save my family in a crisis? Do I possess the skills to assemble flatpack furniture? Am I too old for streetwear? Is it alright to parent my kids through the medium of Fortnite? Is celibacy the secret to a passionate marriage?

From one of the country's most beloved comedians and author of the Sunday Times best seller Straight Outta Crawley comes the hilarious and painfully accurate dissection of what it really means to grow up.

Mild Ignorance

Not sure if it’s general ignorance, or willful ignorance, but it’s ignorance of some sort when it comes to comments about BLM as an organization. Your views, and opinions are easier to contemplate when they’re even vaguely informed before presenting them.

As Average As It Gets

Romesh is usually a humorous joy to listen to but this book is generally meh compared to Straight Outta Crawley. The stories told in this one are good but the chapters are too brief that none of them have any proper substance. Unfortunately like many modern British comedians who write books and narrate audiobooks-Romesh has many similar mainstream interests that are unsurprising and repetitive-although that's more an inherent problem with British culture than anything else. I want to know more about his videogame and film preferences because he only mildly touches on these subjects among just about everything else in the book. Also there are knitpicky complaints to make like this belief that there is a "human nature", which is a common misconception because human behaviour is attained not ascribed, and also that laziness is a fallacy because incentive is the antidote to it-yes these knitpicks are unfair and probably dumb and stupid-but hey I want to hear an original voice with new things to say-and yet in this book Romesh's ramblings can be done by just about anybody and it's only because he's a widely known mainstream comedian that he'll get plenty of attention for it.

Top bloke!

Great narration by Romesh. Touching, educational and amusing in equal measure. What a smasher he is, sharing a very personal insight into his world and his understanding of it. Thanks for sharing and making my day brighter and cheerier. Very funny 😁

Great, Funny and Hyper-Real

Perfect at such a bad point in the world, Rom speaks the truth, which even for a comedian is refreshing

Absolute banger!

Hilarious and yet poignant and insightful in places. Had me genuinely laughing out loud. A superb comedian and his own reading really adds to it. Not exactly a story as such, more like mini stand up bits. Absolutely loved every word! Thanks Romesh.

Fantastic-c will definitely listen to again

Absolutely loved it. I loved his first audiobook, loved this one. Not only was it entertaining but it was also insightful, honest and touched on subjects such as friendships, socialising and mental health in a way I think about them as well. I really hope he does a third and was delighted when he announced this one was coming out.
