Publisher's summary

Experience the unforgettable, heartbreaking love story set in post-World War II North Carolina about a young socialite and the boy who once stole her heart—one of PBS's "Great American Reads".

Every so often a love story so captures our hearts that it becomes more than a story—it becomes an experience to remember forever. The Notebook is such a book. It is a celebration of how passion can be ageless and timeless, a tale that moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true love all over again . . .

At thirty-one, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. At twenty-nine, socialite Allie Nelson is about to marry a wealthy lawyer, but she cannot stop thinking about the boy who long ago stole her heart. Thus begins the story of a love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph, and may even have the power to create a miracle . . .

Could do without the music

The music was so distracting! It made me want to skip through it. But the story... this was the book that made me want to read, I haven’t put down books since this was released!

The movie was better than the book

It was hard to follow. It seemed to be all over the place and I got confused as to where I was in the story. The narrator was very good.

It was an amazing love story. Real love exists even with tragedies of life! Enjoyed the reading, even cried when it became overwhelming.

I can't believe I'm saying this...

Movie > Book. The movie was beautiful! And the book was... disappointing. I actually think the love story in the movie was more touching. I felt like Sparks wrote the book as more of a businessman than an author, capitalizing on what he calculated that people would buy but didn't really put much feeling into it. There was almost no depth to the love story! I believe that this book went viral because of clever marketing, not because of its own merit.

Imagine a decently written story by a fourteen year old boy, who's never actually been in love and that's pretty much what you're going to get out of this book. If Sparks has been in love, he's keeping it to himself.
