Publisher's summary

"Boy, do I have a lot to learn!" Anyone who's ever picked up a musical instrument of any kind - from the first caveman banging rocks to that little kid at the guitar shop - has thought that. I know I did. I'd been trying for years to break in to the music scene, to show everyone my chops, to make my mark. And I was good. But I wasn't great. I knew that there was something wrong.

"Then the teacher showed up. I didn't ask for him. I didn't think I needed him. And all he said he could teach me was 'nothing'.

"What happened next, you may not believe...I sure didn't...but that didn't stop him."

The Music Lesson is the inspiring story of a young bass player and the lessons he learns about Life, Music, and the Life of Music. Throughout this audiobook is new, original music written by Victor Wooten and a bonus performance by the original supergroup Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Great Fun if You are Open to It

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it to friends that are open to ZEN, Learning, or Music. This type of fiction adventure to share mystical concepts, which can be helpful or even important life lessons, can be very powerful for those who are ready for them and can be a serious turn off for those not ready. It isn't something I could recommend without knowing the other person well.

What other book might you compare The Music Lesson to and why?

Way of the Peace Warrior by Millman. The Music Lesson is much more light hearted and uses the learning of Music as its focus. But both books use adventures with a mystical "teacher" to lead the "student" on a journey of learning.

Any additional comments?

Listening to this story with friends that don't quite get it but are open can lead to interesting discussions. Just remember to be kind and loving with your friends. Let them pick up what they can use and don't push anything they can't handle.

Excellent! Highly recommended.

I gained tremendously from this book and followed up by watching Mr. Wooten's Groove Workshop. His approach to teaching music is superb. Wooten is best known as a bassist, but he is a musician first and the lessons in this book apply to any instrument and any kind of music.

The book is about learning music, and it's written as a novel, but the music lessons in the book are solid and something everyone studying music should know.

The performance is outstanding. There are multiple characters serving to do the narration, and it's so well done that other audio book producers should use it as a model.

The audio book is thoroughly engaging from beginning to end, and I just wish there were more stars I could give it.

This audio book is a work of genius.

Victor Wooten's The Music Lesson

I had previously read this book and wanted to discuss it with my Mandolin instructor, Louis Landry. Louis said he really enjoyed the audio book. Especially, Victor's reading and musical accompaniment. I didn't think it could get much better. Boy, was I wrong. Music is a living, breathing thing and I recommend this to all musicians, masters as well as beginners. Music is hard because we make it hard!

One music theory book to rule them all

This book is revealing, engaging, entertaining, and enlightening. The content is unique and superior to all other books of music theory.

Zen and Music

An eye opener on how the musician doesn't approach music. Or in another sense music within music itself, its elements and much more. A must read for any inspiring musician (Teacher or Student) or music lovers.

Incredible Marriage of Music Theory and Fanatsy

Would you listen to The Music Lesson again? Why?

Absolutely, because it made me see music in a different way and has affected how i perform as a musician. Also, hearing his amazing playing throughout was beautiful.

What did you like best about this story?

Firstly, a good part of it is up for scrutiny as to whether it is a true story or not, and he does give a disclaimer on this, but as my title suggests, to marry the real to fantasy made me think and change some perspective. Love learning.

Have you listened to any of Victor L. Wooten’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

His playing, and the healing section where the road accident victim was attended to. Whether true or false, New Age or Spiritually true, the possibilities of our humanity possessing the ability to be more influential than we currently are really got me thinking.

Any additional comments?

Having Victor read and play was a treat.
