Publisher's summary

Infused with Carrie Fisher’s trademark incisive wit and perfectly poised on the heels of Wishful Drinking's instant New York Times best-selling success, Shockaholic takes listeners on another rollicking ride into her crazy life.

Told with the same intimate style, brutal honesty, and uproarious wisdom that placed Wishful Drinking on the New York Times best-seller list for months, Shockaholic is the juicy account of Carrie Fisher’s life, focusing more on the Star Wars years and dishing about the various Hollywood relationships she’s formed since she was chosen to play Princess Leia at only 19 years old. Fisher delves into the gritty details that made the movie - and herself - such a phenomenal success, admitting, "It isn’t all sweetness and light sabers."

Retitled: Carrie and her Daddy

This was enjoyable because Carrie narrates it but it really should be retitled: Carrie and her Daddy - a messed up father daughter relationship. Not that I didn't like listening to this audio because I love Carrie Fisher and her sense of humor. But with that said, the title to me made no sense and her sense of humor did not come out as much as her book called "Wishful drinking". This is worth a listen but if I recommend listening to Wishful drinking, its the best! Loved it.

The best! You can’t make this up.

I really enjoyed the comedy and stride in which Carrie Fisher talks about her life.
I hope she was right about her analysis of Michael Jackson. I fear she was wrong, and I can accept that everyone has their own opinions. She made him sound human, a victim of fame. She was kind to his memory.
I could listen to this book again! I hope I can be as kind to my parents until the end as she was to her absent dad.

What about Carrie Fisher’s performance did you like?

With her reading her own writing made it a 5 star book She is funny funny funny

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When she talks about her parents.

Any additional comments?

I love all her books, I don't think she every realized what a great writer she was, made me laugh, cry, feel good, I am so sorry there won't be any more books I can read from a classic lady like Carrie

I am getting very attached to Carrie

Carrie Fisher's writing is disturbing and entertaining. I feel kind of protective of her as she is so raw and uncensored. Sometimes she goes too far for me as she can get off on strange tangents but I value her perspective and silliness. When she talks about her father and the way she took care of him when he needed her was surprising and profound to me...
I actually feel attached to her as she is getting to be like an old friend who you want to look out for as she sounds fragile sometimes and I don't want to lose her....

Carrie Fisher: Infinitely Interesting

This is as close as one could hope to having dinner and hearing these stories first hand. I love her to pieces and this book was a great read. It seems more raw than Wishful Drinking and more intimate than Princess Diarist. I'll need to re-listen to the latter. Her stories are funny and poignant. Her personal insights colorful and thoughtful. I'm Pissed she's gone, but so glad she was here. If you have the capacity to empathize with persons challenged with mental illness and addiction, her bravery and wit shine brightly.

Carrie Fisher's closet

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a compelling listen with great warmth, sardonic humour, and cutting perceptions about a life observed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shockaholic?

Fisher has the art of observation nailed; of others and herself she can sum up a complex situation in a sentence. The more complex ones, in a word.

What does Carrie Fisher bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The exasperation of her life predicaments.
