Publisher's summary

The rock-and-roll memoir of one of the world's greatest guitarists.

Yngwie Malmsteen's revolutionary guitar style - combining elements of classical music with the speed and volume of heavy metal - made him a staple of the 80s rock scene. Decades later, he's still a legend among guitarists, having sold 11 million albums and influenced generations of rockers since.

In Relentless, Malmsteen shares his personal story, from the moment he burst onto the scene, seemingly out of nowhere, in the early 80s to become a household name in the annals of heavy metal. Along the way, he talks about his first bands, going solo, his songwriting and recording process, and the seedy side of the rock business.

Malmsteen was named one of Time magazine's ten greatest electric guitar players.

The author's most recent album, Spellbound, was released in December 2012.

Bloviations

You know that frequent, unpleasant occurrence when you talk to someone who only talks about how awesome he is at everything, and how he's almost never made any mistakes, or has never suffered like most people suffer? This book is basically like that. There's a lot of delusion to sift through. He talks about how smooth his shows are now that he's sober and that he only hires sober people. But I went to a workshop of his recently and it was a mess. Further, he raves about how great his guitar tone is now, but at that clinic he played obnoxiously loud and his tone was shrill and brittle. You'd thing 11 Marshall cabs (or was it 11 heads? I forget) would have a fuller, deeper sound. I think his hearing is damaged. Mine might be too after that show. Thanks, Yngwie.

But it's fairly interesting to hear his take on things.

Autobiography of Yngwie J. Malmsteen.

Would you listen to Relentless again? Why?

Absolutely, because it is an absolutely amazing book!

What did you like best about this story?

I like reading an autobiography, then you know it`s the truth. Books written by others can come up with falsehoods. This book is the truth about Yngwies life.

What about Yngwie J. Malmsteen and Fred Berman ’s performance did you like?

Vivid descriptions! Excellent!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

That you get to listen to Yngwies amazing guitar playing. He is world class. I think he is by far the greatest of them all.

Any additional comments?

I recommend everyone to read it!

Listening on repeat

If this book doesn’t inspire you to change your programming I don’t know what will. I dove into this as a music fan and came out of it inspired. Definitely buying the hardcover to add to my book collection. I listen to this on repeat in my car and while I practice!

First half is worth it

The early years were very interesting, but the other half it's all about him and his family being perfect. But that's typical Yngwie.

Reconnection w/ the past & Reaffirmation of future

The.narrator captured Yngwie's self-confidence & belief in all the words he spoke. I was 15 yrs old when I first heard "Black Star". That & subsequent compositions are discussed by Yngwie along with his inspirations, songwriting, musical technique, & personal life. There's more beyond those subjects & I'm not doing his autobiography justice. Truly a great listen with cautionary lessons for all of us.

Amazing book!

After listening to Yngwie Malmsteen for so many years, I greatly appreciate him sharing his memoirs. There were so many things I wondered about, and this book explained so much. Really really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates his music and guitar playing.

Very Inspiring

The pase was good. Even when it jumps to a different point in his life, it stays solid. He gives a lot of good advice at the beginning and end.
