Publisher's summary

This no-holds-barred autobiography chronicles the remarkable life of Phil Robertson, the original Duck Commander and Duck Dynasty star, from early childhood through the founding of a family business.

Life was always getting in the way of Phil Robertson’s passion for duck hunting.

An NFL-bound quarterback, Phil made his mark on Louisiana Tech University in the 1960s by playing football and completing his college career with a master’s degree in English. But Phil’s eyes were not always on the books or the ball; they were usually looking to the sky.

Phil grew up with the dream of living the simple life off the land like his forebears, but he soon found himself on a path to self-destruction - leasing a bar, drinking too much, fighting, and wasting his talents. He almost lost it all until he gave his life to God. And then everything changed.

Phil’s incredible story tells how he followed a calling from God and soon after invented a duck call that would begin an incredible journey to the life he had always dreamed of for himself and his family. With great love for his country, his family, and his maker, Phil has finally found the ingredients to the "good life" he always wanted.

"Redneck" does not necessarily mean unintelligent

Would you listen to Happy, Happy, Happy again? Why?

Maybe. It's an easy listen and Phil's son Alan does a good job reading it. I like Phil's raw simplicity and non-overbearing intelligence. He doesn't hold back and I like that in a person. Honesty is always refreshing.

Ms. Kay for her perseverance, strength, faith, love, determination, and simple beauty.

A simple book with a message that isn't so simple

I think many of us who watch "Duck Dynasty" know that even though Phil doesn't usually have a whole lot to say, there is a lot going on with this man behind the scenes. This book confirms that. It's a really inspiring story and having completed it I feel like I have a positive role model to follow after. Great book!

Just a Great Story

Do yourself a favor--give this book a listen. We're all familiar with the Robertsons through TV, of course. But this inside back-story tome will make you love them more than you already do.

Compelling Story: No Camo Needed

Would you listen to Happy, Happy, Happy again? Why?

I would listen to "Happy Happy Happy" again because the story of Phil Robertson's life and legacy is amazing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Happy, Happy, Happy?

To hear about how poor Phil's family was as he grew up, how the love of his wife helped turn him around when he had gone down a deadly path, and then how successful the Robertsons are is the story of the American dream.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Faith, Family, and Ducks make for a Happy Happy Happy Life.

Happy is right

Would you consider the audio edition of Happy, Happy, Happy to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed them both. Listening to Al narrate the story in a voice with the same cadence as his father was like listening to Phil a few years younger.

What other book might you compare Happy, Happy, Happy to and why?

Not one I can think of at this time. This being one man's life story it may have contained similar experiences another may have had, but it was purely his own.

What does Al Robertson and Phil Robertson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listening to the voice of Al made me feel I was listening to a younger Phil.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was and I did. I downloaded it to my droid and clipped it to my shirt and cleaned my entire house as I listened.

Any additional comments?

I have come to admire this entire family for it values. God, Family and Country. Something sorely missing in today's world - old fashioned (if you want to call them that) maybe, but when we had them life was better.

Happy Happy Happy

Excellent insight into Phil's life and how the Duck Commander started. I like the book very much until the last few chapters and little to much preaching for me.

Living the American dream.

What made the experience of listening to Happy, Happy, Happy the most enjoyable?

The story keep me engaged the whole time I listened to it. I found the most enjoyable part of this story was the flow of it. I enjoyed hearing about Phil's journey from his humble youth to his not so success after college years to his very successful later adulthood.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Happy, Happy, Happy?

The most memorable moment of this book is that Phil took risk several times and never lost faith in himself that he would make it big someday. It was this strong self confidence in himself that led him to buy his first oversized lathe to make his design of duck call. The most moving part of this story was the business man that lent Phil his start up many for Duck Commander so he could purchase the lathe and make his first batch of calls. This really says a lot about humanity and how there are really generous and great people out there.

Have you listened to any of Al Robertson and Phil Robertson ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have only watch the popular T.V. show but I have not heard any of Al or Phil's other works. I was very happy, happy, happy with this audio book and made me think more of how strong families can help strengthen each member in it. In American society the strong family bonds are breaking down in the fast paced lives most of us live. This is why the Robertson's are so entertaining because they are a dying breed of family. There family values set them apart from your run of the mill family because they stay close to each other and share in all each others life experiences such as religion and professions.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The title for this book would be the most original and catching tag line because it is Phil.
