Publisher's summary

"It felt like I was speeding on the Autobahn toward hell, trapped inside a DeLorean with no brakes. And even if I could somehow stop, I'd still be screwed, because there's no way I'd ever be able to figure out how to open those insane, cocaine-designed doors."

The two-time Emmy Award-winning actress has written her first book, a surprisingly raw and triumphant memoir that is outrageous, moving, sweet, tragic, and heartbreakingly honest. Guts is a true triumph - a memoir that manages to be as frank and revealing as Augusten Burroughs, yet as hilarious and witty as David Sedaris.

With Guts, Johnston takes us on a journey so truthful and relatable, so remarkably fresh, it promises to stay with the listener for a long, long time.

Nobody's got a voice like Kristin Johnston

If you could sum up Guts in three words, what would they be?

Brilliant. Raw. Candid.

What other book might you compare Guts to and why?

Hard to compare with other audiobooks except maybe David Sedaris, who has the same ability to make you laugh while telling a heart-wrenching story.

What about Kristen Johnston’s performance did you like?

That voice. That voice. That voice is MADE for audiobooks. Kristin is one of the rare performers who has the looks to match that mesmerizing voice.

Funny and Moving

What does Kristen Johnston bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listening to Kristen tell her story made it very personal and real. This is her story, all the pain, the highs and especially the lows are told to entertain, she acts it out flawlessly.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It is laugh out loud funny. Kristen tells it warts and all and makes awful situations hysterical.

Sitting down to coffee with a friend....

What did you love best about Guts?

It is an honest portrayal of the hell she's gone thru and the mistakes she made in her life.

Would you recommend Guts to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, it was a fun, gritty, interesting story.

What does Kristen Johnston bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It really felt like she was talking directly to me. Like we were just two friends sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee, telling stories.

Any additional comments?

I usually don't read this type of book, but glad I selected it. It was interesting, and funny too.

Honest and witty

I love Kristen Johnston as an actor, and now I love her even more for having the “guts” to tell her truth. With honesty and wit, she tells her story about drug and alcohol addiction, and how she survived her self-destructive ways.

Listening to her distinctive voice and delivery only makes the memoir more riveting.
