Publisher's summary

Cassie Parker has grown used to denying her sexuality. Her father, the fire-and-brimstone Reverend Parker, has made that a necessity. Raised in a web of secrets, sadness, and under the heavy hand of her father's righteous wrath and intolerance, Cassie turns to her art to fill the hole in her heart and erase the memory of a mother who abandoned her in childhood. Then Luke Winston enters her life. Strong, mysterious, and beautiful, Luke sparks Cassie's desire, and takes her heart to places she's never known. Soon Cassie can no longer deny her attraction to women - and especially to Luke.

When Cassie's father makes an unexpected visit, the intrusion on her new life explodes as dark family secrets are revealed. Will Cassie choose a life without family...or a life without love?

another excellent story

As a pk myself I could relate to this story on so many levels. I know we’ve come a long way as a nation, but it’s a good reminder that everyone’s journey to self awareness is different. love ways wins if we have the courage to embrace it.

Amazing and difficult.

Coming from an extremely difficult religious upbringing...there are parts of this book that really hit way too close to home. Let me just say...religion ruins lives. It took me until my 30s to realize that I would need to leave every part of my life just to be myself also. And altho I am now happily married to my amazing wife...it was not an easy journey. This kind of religious brainwashing is not easy to overcome. Learning how to stand up for yourself and get beyond the shame and guilt and fear is a lifelong challenge. Excellent book.

Pure pleasure

The combination of Gerri Hill story and the sexy voice of Abby Craden is a vining combination.
This story of an artist who grew up with a father who is a reverend anti gay, who denied her sexuality for so many years, is a well written story and actually I am waiting for a sequel., it left me on a cliff hanger. not fair.

Self revelation in accepting who you are & love

Cassie is just the most loveable woman and how she does her art is such a wonderful work of heart. Like is an artist in her own right and when they connect loving each other is just the next step. Abby Craden always lets you feel the struggle Cassie has in loving herself, the characters so real. A coming out story so rich and full of passion. Brilliantly told story by Gerri Hill.

Love at first sight

From the words of friendship, the teasing, the emotional intimacy, and of course passion this was a great book. Hate never stood a chance.

Wait! What happened?

The only reason I had to give a 4 star review, is because I wanted to know what happened next.
Otger than that, another fantastic story by Hill.

A great story.

This is a lovely romance that shows the power of love and indeed the power of hate in the pretext of love! How we choose family and how difficult families can be that leave a lasting legacy.
Abby read this audio book brilliantly and I definitely recommend this fantastic audio book. ❤

A beautiful story of love and the art of becoming oneself...

I loved every second of this book. It reminded me of how important it is not to live up to the expectations of others at the expense of being the person you are, and the fear, in this case, of the judgement and wrath of her father, a reverend, finding out who his daughter really is, tho for him, being a compassionate and talented human being was far less important than keeping up appearances in the eyes of his church, his flock, and his god.

Yet even in the midst of all the hate thrown at her, Cassie still manages to show her father compassion and understanding.

I loved the writing of the developing love between Cass and Luke. It was seductive and emotional, with well written, hot and believable sex scenes.

The narrator was excellent, bringing the characters to life skilfully, and with ease.

I didn't want it to end!

Different in a good way

I liked this book and the way it addresses mental health, discrimination and even abuse. It made me cry in places. I was so hopeful for Cassie, I hoped there’d be a follow up! I’m going to check now!

Loved it!

Good characters and a storyline that would be familiar to so many in one way or another. Hoping for book 2.
