Publisher's summary

Half devil and miles from anything resembling heroic, perpetual underdog Frank "Triggaltheron" Trigg is the last man standing against Armageddon. As the favorite nephew of the devil, Frank has led a troubled life, but he'd always had his uncle's influence to fall back on. Now, with God and Lucifer coming to terms and leaving existence to fend for itself, his once exalted status of Antichrist-to-be does little to endear him to the hordes of angels and demons running amok in the godless world.

With help from the members of DRAC, an organization of wizards, psychics, telepaths, and low-end supernatural beings, Frank must thwart the pro-Armageddon forces and rescue an angel in whose life rests the fate of humanity. Better luck next time, humanity.

A great audio version of one of my favorite books!

I am a big fan of this author, having read books in most of his other series, and even having beta read a couple for him. That being said, I read this before I even knew who he was. It is an excellent start to the series, Starrring the Devils's favorite nephew, who is part of an organization trying to keep the supernatural forces of the world, mostly angels and Demons, in check after God and Lucifer decide to depart for parts unknown and abandon the Earth. Shockingly, The arch Demons and angels vie for control of the Earth. This leads our wisecracking hero into a series of scrapes he sometimes only barely escapes. The plot is fast moving, never lagging, and the characters are engaging, both heroes and villains alike. I would recommend this book to any fans of slightly darker urban fantasy. Noah Michael Levine Does a great job of bringing the characters to life.

Love!!!

An excellent amalgamation of witty humor and despicable violence, this first book in a series is addictive and intelligent. If you tossed Dogma and Donnie Darko into a cement mixer, you might come close. masterfully narrated by Noah Michael Levine (one of my personal favorites) there's plenty of action, tears, affrontery, and seriously awesome imagery, it's impossible not to love this series, no matter what your genre preferences are!

Childish

The writing is juvenile at best, with homophobia and sexism rampant throughout. I barely made it two chapters before calling it quits on this vain attempt at edgy storytelling, if such writing could be called storytelling.

I hoped for more

Any additional comments?

I have been waiting a while for this book to come out as an audiobook. Sadly it has . I hoped for so much more. The premise is good, there is so much that could have been done with the storyline and characters. I just could not get into it. That's not to say there are no redeeming qualities to it. It was a decent listen . If there had been more complexity to the story with a bit more world building, the story could have been greatly enhanced. As well as the characters .

Entertaining

I really like the storyline. Great snarky commentary from the min character. Two main downsides, which for me are major ones. 1) Author needs to learn the proper terminology for firearms. In a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol, a magazine is used to reload the gun, not a “clip,” and the use of “cartridge” refers to individual ammunition (bullet, powder, shell casing and primer), not the magazine. 2) Author needs to work on descriptions of fight scenes to invoke actual combat rather than what seems to be an homage to Japanese manga. Otherwise, decent and enjoyable read.

Great, Could Of Been

MC/Main Character is a 500 yr old half demon who can't die by mundane means. Other then healing fast & most things can't really kill him, he has no powers. MC is an investigator for a good magical group, who fights bad magical types. Set in modern day earth.
To bad he is a bit stupid & weak. The stupid & weak is what lessons this book. He does a stupid thing that gets him into trouble & is to weak to help him self, or can't really get stuff done on his own, so he must rely on others ALL the time !!!
Story is faster paced & simple.
Their is no magic from him & very little from others.
Some action & most of it is him getting beat up.
Quite a bit of hammy some what funny humor.
No romance or sex.
Performance is mostly good, with many different voices & accents.

from nest kicker to team antiapocalypse

you see him go from a runner who sends messages and deals between the human mages and demons to becoming a key member in attempting to fight off armageddon because there are no porn mags in oblivion. The don't give two shits nature of the
protagonist and his colorful language as he tries to make the best of the world going to shit as he tires to watch out for his comrades and friends turns this from an ok story about misadventures to a meaningful story because he has people to fight for and a reason to keep fighting. Even when that reason is because he enjoys the screw or the view.

Good read.

This was a pretty entertaining read. Much of that is credit to the narrator. Author was going for something like a supernatural noir I guess, and did a pretty good job. But after the 50th comment about how much of a perv Trig is in the most pornographic way possible, that got old.
My other complaint, and many may not even notice, is using proper terminology. When you write a story where firearms are quite prevalent, one would think using the correct names for specific items would be a necessity. The oft used ‘clip’ for a magazine is abused constantly. Then he went to calling a magazine a round, i.e. “Trig realized he was down to his last ‘round’ as he slammed it into his gun.” Petty and nit picking? Absolutely. But seems like a pretty big mistake when the author mentions guns every other page.
Narrator was great, story was entertaining but nothing new. Just a different setting and character types, but a fun ride.
