Story
Many millennia ago, humans, including us, were seeded on 15 worlds by an alien race, the Airlia. We believe we evolved, but the reality is we were bred as cannon fodder for the Airlia’s interstellar war against the Swarm, a viral race whose only mission appears to be the obliteration of sentient life wherever encountered. On some worlds humans realized the truth about their origins, uncovered their hidden alien overlords, and rebelled.

It began at the dawn of history, when a darkness rose from deep within an Egyptian tomb. For thousands of years - long before earth was plunged into an intergalactic battle for its survival - four deathless creatures sowed seeds of destruction and chaos. Surviving on the spilled blood of warriors and innocents from ancient Greece to the ashes of Nazi Germany, the creatures have played a role in conflicts great and small.

Story
AD 2150: Chris Randall just lost his job as a bodyguard. That night, after picking up his wife, Bree, from her shift at a local casino, he breaks the bad news. Moments later, thunder cracks the sky, but there’s no lightning. Flaming debris rain across the valley, and a dark mass goes sailing out of the clouds, headed straight for LA. It’s not one of the Union’s starships, because they can’t defy gravity like that. But then, what is it? The answer chills both Chris and Bree to their cores: It’s an invasion.

Half a century ago, an aberration was spotted by one of our earliest satellites, and summarily dismissed as a hardware malfunction. But it was no aberration. And no malfunction. It was an accidental glimpse of something extraordinary, and very old. Mocked for decades, the man who designed the satellite is now dead. With the system's original data firmly in the hands of former NTSB investigator Joe Rickards and anthropologist Angela Reed.

Story
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Publisher's Summary
The ancient enemy has arrived.
A Swarm Battle Core is orbiting Earth preparing for the Reaping. The remnants of mankind desperately try to either survive or fight back. But they aren’t certain what they’re going to face. All they have are myths and legends. And when the Swarm actually does land, it’s worse than any of those.
Major Mike Turcotte, the hero of defeating the Airlia, makes a desperate attempt to stop the Swarm by going directly to the Core. On Earth, the future of mankind hides in the Facility, an underground self-contained ecosystem. And across the planet others prepare for the last fight.
From an Assassin in New York City to the enigmatic Darlene in her trailed in Marfa, Texas, to Nosferatu and Nekhbet, the last two Elder undead hide on an island in Puget Sound.
It appears there is no hope.
But there is always hope, but sometimes it takes a tremendous sacrifice.

just shorter than other books in series
this was a great ending, the only reason I did not give 5 stars was that it was about a 3rd the length of the rest of the books in the series. but I should'nt complain after all these years 2 new area 51 books in one year was awesome! Mike is a beast like always, maybe some rest can happen for him now!

Short and somewhat unsatisfying
The story in this book is told in fits and starts, from a number of viewpoints. That's not always a bad thing but the way it was implemented in this book was not good. It reads more like a collection of small stories/notes off to the side that were split up and forced into rough arc to possibly close out the series. I really enjoyed the narration, just the story was hard to get through.

Satisfying and on the edge of your seat
The headline tells it all. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and happy to get a great adventure with some answers to the prior books. Like those however there are more questions at the end that I can’t wait to read about in follow up novels. The author knows how to weave a story, but in this novel I feel as though he injected a bit too much of his own political feelings. At parts it seemed preachy whether you agree or disagree. Overall fun read though.

Awesome Book
What can I say, this book was great! As a matter of fact all the Area 51 books were great. Bob Mayer is a hell of a writer and Eric Dove did a great job narrating it.
